I know this is waayyyyy off toipic. But, we're just a bunch of very normal people that happen to have an ostomy(NEVER FORGET THAT!!!, right?) My wife and I never miss an episode of The Office and we love to watch "good" horror movies, not the slasher kind. But, old gothic, black and white, horror flicks. How about you guys??? And, what are your hobbies? My username will give you a clue of one of my hobbies. And, in case you were wondering, currently I own 2 Corvettes(both convertibles), and though I'm 48, I'm  a teenager from the neck up when it comes to fast cars. 

How about you guys?

My husband and I like to watch----------The History Channel and Fox News. Who needs to watch horror flicks when the real thing is scarier.(big smile)
And of course, we are avid football fans. Love LSU tigers!! My daughter lives on the Gulf, so we do love to go to the beach and hang out with them.

This is a great way to get to know everyone! :-)

My hubby and I enjoy watching comedies... Seinfeld, Malcolm in the Middle, Scrubs, Curb Your Enthusiasm... and movies... Stripes, History of the World, Blazing Saddles, Love and Death. We also enjoy adventure flicks like Casino Royale, Indiana Jones, and National Treasure. It has to be a really bad movie for us not to watch it, and sometimes, we'll still watch it, but laugh about how bad it is... like Independence Day or Dante's Peak! LOL tongue

We both grew up in Naples and still live in Florida near the Gulf, so we enjoy going to the beach almost every Saturday. We have a pool table in our house, so when we get home from the beach, we'll crank up some Jackson Browne or the Eagles and shoot a couple of games of pool while grilling out.

My husband is a computer tech, so he's always fixing a computer or building a new one. He plays classical guitar, builds wood furniture, and enjoys growing palm trees in our yard. We enjoy spending time with family and friends, cooking yummy meals, and exercising. We have a gray cat named Smokey and a fish tank full of Oscars. If we ever got a dog, it would be a German Shepherd, because we had one years ago, and he was really smart.

I used to work as an Administrative Assistant/Receptionist at a church, and now I'm a lady of leisure, who likes to sell stuff on Ebay. We have two very sweet daughters, Suzie (age 27) and Katie (age 25). They're both married, and Katie just had a little girl, named Kai.

We have a really good life and are very thankful for all of the blessings God has given us.

My user name is a clue...I live in Ohio, but only moved here 11 years ago when my husband was transferred (west side of Cleveland is home for him). 

We LOVE to watch all the CBS shows on Monday night:  How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men!!!  Then the next choice would be NCIS (writers have gotten better this season!) and the new Mentalist...then of course we watch all the old reruns of Seinfeld, Friends, etc...  As for movies we love Slap Shot (Paul Newman) and the Grumpy Old Men movies, but don't get to the theaters very often.

We have a 14 year old daughter who is an avid equestrian...so, we have a horse, two dogs (labs) and a rabbit (named "Dinner" because of the dogs!).  If we were able to spend our time ANYWHERE, it would be at our house on Cape Cod...I am originally from Connecticut and spent summers there with my family and although my hubby is from Ohio, his family has always owned a home there, too!!!  We are actually on our way there for Thanksgiving tongue

As for sports...I wish I could say the Browns were better, but at least we have BRADY...so I watch the games now, hehehe...

Cece:  my hubby is a hobby furniture maker, too!!  I just say "wouldn't it be nice to have...." and he makes it :-)   He just finished a beautiful sideboard for my dining room!

Wow, ostomates are really NORMAL people!!  Because we have all lost our quality of life at some point.... we probably appreciate the things we have (family, health, friends) more then the average person, too!

I can't believe no one watches "House" I love that show and I can't miss an episode. I have to admit though when I was in the hospital for a month I couldn't watch it. LOL!!

Ok, my NEVER miss shows are Amazing Race, Fringe (awesome! if you have not seen it esp you marksy, you MUST watch it!) and of course LOST!!!! January 21 is WAY to far away, that show should be on 24/7 it's cruel to make us wait! I also like Pushing Daisies andHouse, and ER and eli stone, and lipstick jungle, i like TV, lol.
Sitcom wise-Simpsons RULE!!! But new adventures of old christine and big bang theory, andfunnies show ever, The golden girls!
hobbies, Rock band and Dance Dance revolution! i am a big video game fan. I also like pudding wrestling, lol. And doing things with my son and friends, like going to the park or out to eat. I take my little boy out to eat at the buffet at a pizza place, just me and him at least twice a week. He thinks he is big stuff, lol.
I guess i am pretty boring when you think about it!

Noone has mentioned music! my fav bands are remy zero and matchbox 20, i like country too, and older music, love CCR, Jim Croce, Lynard Skinner, Kansas, pretty much anything except classical and gospil.

I like House, too. I love medicaL mysteries. In fact, I love to read Robin Cook's books about medicine gone wrong. I guess it's because of all my UC and ostomy stuff.
My husband is a forester and I'm a retired teacher, but I'm going back to work part- time in December. I love the kids because they keep my mind active, and I don't want to become too out of touch with what's new. I have 3 daughters and 6 grandchildren, the loves of my life.

Staying home has caused me to develop bad habits. You can see from my posts that I stay up all hours of the night on the computer!

Yes, ostomates are really ordinary people with extraordinary lives!!

I like the medical mystery shows that come on discovery or whatever, they used to have a really good one.

And i totally forget that i love Psych and Monk, those are two really really funny shows.

I discovered Scrubs while in the hospital after my proctocolectomy, and I popped a couple of staples from laughing so hard!! I love all of the hospital shows, especially House and Grey's Anatomy, but my hubby has a hard time watching them because of what I've been through. I think he's more emotionally scarred than I am! Awwww...

Shows....Big Bang Theory, The Office, How I Met Your Mother, and Heroes--although I wonder if that show is spreading itself too thin with all the new characters

Movies...I love so many--comedies, romantic comedies, action, thriller, etc.

Hobbies...making chocolates, baking, belly dancing, reading, and sleeping.--nowadays (since I'm in school) I generally spend my free time studying

I just started watching old Law and Order episodes since I'm home during the day. My mom got me into the show.

I have 3 cats. Oreo, my 6 year old fat black and white cat. She loves company. She is my baby and such a sweetheart. Jack (aka JD, Jack Daniels, Bubbles, Jackbutt, etc.) is 2. He is orange, funny and such a mush. He loves playing with his shadow and loves to be everyone's friend. Morgan (aka Captain Morgan, Beans, or Squeky) is JD's sister. She is a calico cat. She is sweet and loves to be played with. She does not like loud noises so will usually hide in my bedroom if there is any company over. She also loves to follow you into the bathroom and drink water from the sink. JD does this too but not as much. Squeaky is a small cat but when she jumps off of something she makes the biggest thud and is also a very loud eater.

I like to read and I work in a library so get to be around books all the time. My favorite books are the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series by Ann Brashares and the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. I can't wait until the movie Twilight comes out which is this Friday (unfortunately I cannot go as I don't think I can sit through a movie yet).

I am involved with music in school. I play the trombone in band, brass ensemble and jazz ensemble. I also am in chorus. My first instrument was baritone horn which is my favorite to play.

I love to hang out with friends and just have fun. I also like to go outside and take photos of whatever I can find.

I also like to volunteer at a camp through the school district during the summer and winter recess. The kids are Kindergarten-5th grade. There are many different classes that the kids can take (magic, art classes, cooking, theater). This winter session a bunch of kids in the music honor society are teaching the instruments to some beginners to help them in band/orchestra. I'm teaching baritone horn/trombone to the 5th graders and it's pretty exciting.

hiya, well i am a mum to 4 boys Joshua 9 harvey and jacob 6 and Noah 2, with a little one on the way. When i am not busy with the kids and cleaning i like to read mainly crime stuff, Harlan Coben, being one of the faves, very humerous but great crime writing, my hubby is the same. he is a partner in a law firm, so we are both busy but we always make time for our fave tv shows.

Heroes ( no one has said this why why why)C.S.I 's, x-factor,law and order, Fringe, 24, and the very fabulous LOST

we love comedies too, movies wise, a good thriller, or a movie that you have to use every brain cell to figure out what is going on. I love ason statham movies. But mainly all action.Can not stand old western types.

Comdey wise anything realy, superbad, knocked up, true lies, harold and kumar, the 40 yr old virgin, blah blah blah

rom coms- the lake house, sex and the city, and period dramas

music- snow patrol, bon jovi, u2, coldplay, leona lewis, david grey, damien rice, anything realy unless its cheesy, i do like classical music too, especially the romantic classics.

Here's why I didn't get into House - I already had a medical drama each week. I know, I know, it sounds so odd but at the time I had enough shows on my plate already. Same with Grey's Anatomy too. People told me - you have to watch GA! But I had ER.....which I have watched from day one. LOL!!!! Now my daughters - 18 and 21 - have watched Scrubs and I've watched more than a few Scrubs episodes - which are so funny. But my loyalty has to go to ER.....I was this way with St. Elsewhere too......and back in the day? Dallas! Knots Landing! Friends! I become quite devoted to my shows.....LOL

My youngest daughter has watched the Jon and Kate: Plus 8 and the Little People show. She enjoys the family type shows that are hectic and chaotic! I think she secretly wishes she had more siblings......anywho, what would we do without our shows? Gosh, I just don't know. When you struggle as much as many of us do, you NEED that weekly escape!

Hey how about movies you could watch over and over again? Mine would be The Wedding Singer (I'm a sap for the ending, LOL!), Planes, Trains & Automobiles, the original Parent Trap, even the Harry Potter movies. And oh my gosh, how in the world could I forget......any Star Wars movie! Especially A New Hope!

I am a big fan of TCM (Turner Classic Movies)...all the old black and whites.  We also watch American Justice, Deal or No Deal, I also love Mansions, Property Virgins, Millionaire Real Estate, and of course, all the reruns of Friends and Seinfeld...oops cant forget Family Guy (LOL) tongue

I love to watch the medical shows...House, Grey's, Private practice and E.R.. But I also love Lost and the sci-fi channel...Ghost hunters especially. My husband also watches these shows but he also loves the history channel. We both like comedy and action movies. Otherwise we run with the kids. My oldest daughter Kate(12) is a tap dancer and my youngest daughter Brandy(10) is a cheerleader. Between dance, and sports ( both girls play basketball and softball) our year is busy. On the weekends we watch college football, ironically he is a U of M fan and I'm a Michigan State fan. So that yearly game against each other is pretty interesting!!!

My favorite scene from Planes, Trains & Automobiles is when the other car's couple keeps shouting - "you're going the wrong way!". John Candy keeps shaking his head, pretending this couple is drinking and Steve Martins asks - how do they know which way we're going?!!! First time I watched this movie, I just about peed my pants, I was laughing so hard, I had tears in my eyes!

Speaking of Sci-fi, does anyone remember a show that featured a male host and two robots? They would critique really bad Sci-fi movies, from years ago - the comments and jokes they would tell, were very funny. Each time a young girl would wander into a deserted mansion, for example, they'd shout - no, don't go in there! Stupid girl......I thought this show was funny, back in the day. But my kids thought it was odd.......this was before I played the Star Wars movies for them. LOL Wish I could remember the title of this show, a spoof on bad sci-fi or horror movies. I think it was recently released on DVD.

That was called "Mystery Science Theater 2000(maybe it was 3000). My wife and son and I would watch it every Saturday morning. One of the robots heads was made from an old hockey mask, and the other was made from an old gum ball machine. I would even rent some of the movies we saw. I love old "horror flicks". Thanks for the memories!

 

Hey, I'm glad I started this thread. Sometimes it's nice to NOT talk about skin problems, leakage, and all rhe other ostomy stuff just to remind us that we're pretty normal people that happen to have an ostomy!

another 'planes, trains, & automobiles' fan here. i love the office, 24, and a bunch of reality crap that i'm too embarrassed to admit. movies, i like indie films, comedy, zombie, mobster and 'thinker' flicks like memento, etc. nice thread idea!

summerstorm - get in the car, head up to your local Blockbuster and rent P, T and A! Today! You will not be sorry....it's perfect too since it's Thanksgiving related. And John Candy was absolutely superb in this movie. So no need to feel left. We'll politely wait while you watch it! Heck, I might even rent it this weekend.....LOL

Vetteguy - I'm glad you started this thread too! Even though I only had a temporary ostomy, I struggle every single day since being reconnected and so many of us go thru such cr** each day that we do need to laugh! And thanks so much for putting a show title with a description, you're correct, it was Mystery Science Theater. I remember watching it each Saturday morning while I walked on the treadmill. My daughters would hear me cracking up while exercising, wondering what in the world was so funny about walking! LOL

We all do need to laugh every now and then, or need a good cry......we could take your thread in a serious direction. If I ever need a good cry and a feel good in the end kind of movie, I watch Shawshank Redemption. Morgan Freeman's narration gives me chills each time he explains how the human spirit cannot be broken.
