Do any of you use a waterproof mattress pad, or some other sort of protective padding on your beds?  Any suggestions?  Easier to think about things like this than my upcoming surgery.

i had a waterproof matrees pad under my bed before, my little boy sleeps in the bed with me, so htat was for the best, lol.
But then i snaked teh matrrss pad off the bed at the hospital after i had him because i was bleeding so heavy and then after surgery i took that one too, and i sewed sheets on top of them and i sleep on them

I just put a mattress pad on the bed. It's just like a fitted sheet so it's not biggie--actually I did this pre-ostomy as well.

the reason i do it on top of the bed, is because if, god forbid, i have a leak, i dont have to change the whole bed, just pull the pad up and throw it in the wsh

I have a plastic sheet on my bed, underneath the bottom sheet. I have a problem with bedwetting, and the pads like they use in a hospital, don't hold it all, when I usually wet.

I live on the wild side...just a regular mattress pad, no plastic. Did I just JINX myself?!

Ohio...I was just thinking of posting that I don't use anything either and wondering if I would jinx myself if I posted it and then I read YOUR POST...too funny...ha ha ha...let's hope we're both noth jinxed now!! yeah

I don't want to hear the plastic rattle so I don't use a plastic sheet. I just have a mattress pad and that really isn't that much protection. I have been wondering where I could buy those hospital pads like I had on the bed after surgery--the soft noiseless ones?

nene--I think you can get them through any medical supply...they're listed under incontinence...I looked, just never got around to getting any...boy I wish one fell into my bag after my last hospital stay!!

I don't think they are all created equal either...you may have to look around to find the nicer ones. :-)

I use a crib mattress pad under my sheets.  It's small and easy to clean.  The WOC nurse suggested it.  I've only even had 2 leaks in the middle of the night, but the small mattress pad catches anything before it gets onto my regular mattress pad or my mattress.

mine didnt exaclty fall into the bag, lol. the first one they let me take home when my son was born, and th second one got folded up and put in there! LOL
I bougth some of the ones from Babies R Us for babies, but i dont like those near as good, i use those on the floor in the bathroom when i change.
Plus the back is a little diff so it rustles more. and the ones from the hosptial, after you sew the sheet on top, you cant eventell that you arenot sleeping on teh sheet

I can't use plastic sheets, they make me sweat too much. A cloth mattress protector from a local variety store is fine for me :)

At home I just use a mattress pad and a large, thick bath towel folded under it on My side of the bed. Not waterproof, but no plastic rustling noises and not really hot like plastic. When I travel, I place a chucks mattress pad under the sheet "just in case", since I'm not sleeping on my own mattress. Like here at my in-laws right now. When I forget my chucks, I just grab a bath towel and fold it in 1/2 and put it under that "area" when I'm not sleeping on my own mattress. Just a safety precaution..... better safe than sorry and embarrassed!

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.  Now I know what "chucks" are.  I am learning a whole new vocabulary!  I am also learning that traveling places will require some additions to my luggage I hadn't anticipated before.
