I was wondering, after having your colon removed do the docs place you on any meds besides for pain?

I went home on pain meds, and prednisone (which I was dependent on). Had weaned off both the pain meds and the prednisone within a month of surgery, and have been med free ever since. It's a good feeling!

i was only giving pain meds. and didnt need them.

I was on pain meds and meds for cramping. Now I'm on nothing (relating to the surgery) except 2 tsp of benefiber. It's wonderful!!

I was given Vicodin after my proctocolectomy surgery, but only needed them for a few weeks. Now, I'm medicine-free and loving it!

I had jpouch surgery for UC and take no meds.  I was on vicodin during the recovery but stopped taking it 7 days after surgery.  Today, 8 years post surgery, I am med-free.

Hi Holly,

I was given just pain meds and later a spasm med. I take 8 different meds now that aren't related to this surgery, but am down from 17 that I used to take before my surgery and am looking forward to stopping some of these in the near future :-) .

You go home with pain meds, and sometimes pred is you arealready on it.
I take some gas-x sometimes now, and if i am going on a trip or dont want to have to empty for a while i will take some immodium
