I have my colon removed on Monday.
My prep is only clear liquids for 48 hrs plus Magnesium Citrate 24 hrs before surgery.
I don't think I can go without food for 48 hrs without passing out or getting headache
Thinking about
drinking sm amt milk couple times the first 24 hrs so I can manage
Every time I had colonoscopy I was very clean the docs said.
What is danger of drinking milk that first day of prep?

When they had me drink clear liquids I could have broths, jello, soda, pretty much any liquid and they didn't even care if it was red because they were removing my colon. They said when I had the colonoscopy it couldn't be red because they had to see through the colon but when they take it out it didn't matter. That's just what my doctors told me and I was fine, but if you want to be sure you should check with yours.
Good luck to you!

They told me the same thing. But I get really bad (headaches, weak). I'm thinking about
cheating and having a little milk that first day to get me thruough this. I ask the RN today, and she said "clear liquids 48 hrs.
I know how I get headaches. I plan to try but may have to cheat. I will not tell hosp, just drink sm amt milk or little butter to get me through.
Thanks

I only had to go 24 hours on clear liquids only, prior to colon removal.
I would err on being safe rather than sorry. Hot broth, popsicles, jello qualify as clears and will get some sugar and calories into your body, and might trick your stomach a little into feeling fuller. I was so anxious prior to surgery that I wasn't that hungry anyway.
Thinking good thoughts for your surgery, you will feel much better soon.

if you cannot see through it, you SHOULDN'T drink it...milk wouldn't be my first choice, but I would do broth and Popsicles...I don't know your doc, but I wouldn't want to jeopardize my surgery?

Hi,
I agree with everyone with not drinking milk. I had my colon removed back in August. I am lactose intolerant, so I never drink milk. I just want to say Good luck with everything.

Really try not to cheat! You don't want to be sorry you did.
Good luck! I'll be thinking and praying for you on Mon.

I would stay away from milk, too. If you eat plenty of broth, jello, and popsicles, and drink a lot of apple and cranberry juice, you'll get through it. If you get a headache, isn't it okay to take a couple of Tylenol? Good luck with the prep and the surgery on Monday. I'll be thinking about
you and praying for you!

Thank you all for your best wishes! I appreciate that.
I sure hope this prep is the worse part. I feel good about
my surgeon, the hospital, the nurses. I also feel good about
my recovery. It's just the two days without substance...sugar water just doesn't help, and yes I am on Tylenol around the clock for body inflammation.
I've decided to fill up on spaghetti and milk an hr before my 48 hrs start. By the time I get hungry, it will be bedtime. Then Sunday morning I take the Magnesium Citrate. Then six hrs later I hit the road for two hrs to stay with my brother until Monday. I report at 11am for 1pm surgery.
Oh, I have to shower with this surgical scrub stuff. Once the night before and once the morning of surgery. Life is an experience.

I wouldn't eat too close to when you have to drink the magnesium citrate because it could make you throw up everything you ate..
