Hoping for reversal soon

Surgeon called and is hoping to reverse ileostomy in a couple of weeks.  Had several fluroscopy tests this week that showed the fistula wasn't totally healed yet.  He is hoping it is healed enough to do the surgery though.  Have I mentioned that in chances of the unforeseen, I tend to run in the less than 1% area.  So he plans on really monitoring in the hospital for a while afterward.  I'm hoping this can be done and hopefully will help to clear up all the digestive/nausea problems, too.

Another surgery is probably imminent to repair prolapses which the mesh material was removed due to infection.  Some sort of somthing or other with the name bridge in it....

Just keeping my fingers crossed.  I want to say too that this has been such a helpful site.  I wished I'd found it from the very beginning & even before for other things I deal with.

    HELP.  I'D LIKE TO GET STRAIGHT ANSWERS FROM REAL PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOTHING TO GAIN BY LYING TO ME, LIKE THE DOCTORS DO.  I AM IN GENERALLY GOOD HEALTH, 55 YEARS OLD, BUT HAVE / HAD RECTAL CANCER.  THE WAS TUMOR REMOVED IN MID JAN. 09.  MY SURGEON WOULD LIKE TO DO THE REVERSAL OPERATION IN MID APRIL.  HE WILL RE-CONNECT MY PLUMBING INTO A MORE NORMAL CONFIGURATION, ESPECIALLY SINCE HE WANT TO GREAT LENGTHS TO SAME THE SPINKER MUSCLES WHEN REMOVING THE RECTUM.  MY chemo-doctor HAS STARTED POST SURGERY CHEMO THERAPHY ON AN EVERYOTHER WEEK SCHEDUALE THAT WILL LAST 6 MONTHS.  he DOES NOT WANT ME TO HAVE ANY SURGERYS FOR AT LEAST 3 MONTHS (MID JUNE) AND he WOULD PREFER THE OSTOMY REVERSAL TAKE PLACE WELL AFTER he IS DONE WITH MY CHEMO TREATMENT (LATE SEPT).

MY OSTOMY WAS ORIGINALLY SUPPOSED TO BE TEMPERARY (3 MONTHS).  WILL THERE BE DIFFICULTIES RE-ATTACHING IT IF I WAIT UNTIL 6 MONTHES OR EVEN 9 MONTHS AFTER THE ORIGINAL SURGERY ?

HAS ANYONE HAD AN OSTOMY REVERSAL WHILE ON CHEMO ?

Ace Flood Guy - we do things a bit different in Canada - I had pre surgery radiation and chemo for 5 weeks to shrink the tumour (which it did - thankfully because they were able to save my rectum - and gives me a chance to have the ileostomy reversed).  My doctors - surgeon and chemo are adamant that no reversal will take place until after the chemo is finished - we only do 4 months because of the pre surgery regiment.  Can't imagine trying to do the chemo and having surgery at the same time - I finished my chemo/radiation in November and did not have my surgery (they also did a full hysterectomy at the same time as the colon surgery) until January 9th.  Then my second round of chemo started in March and goes until June 12th.  My surgeon told me to call him once I was finished with my last chemo and he would do the surgery 6-8 weeks later.

Let me know how things are going for you - as you are the first person I have seen who had cancer and not some other bowel condition.
