think I know what my stoma problem is: it goes in like navel

I am three months out from colostomy after emergency surgery and parititnus....My stoma is starting to do the some....going to my family dr in an hour and hope for a answerr..will tell u when i get back what he said....

I talked with my ostomy nurse. She said sometimes pts will need a revision surgery to stoma or whatever they do to fix problem. She does not think I need that yet but glad I left message for surgeon. She's ordering convexity bags from ConvaTec since I have not tried theirs. she wants to see me Tues. She is always optimistic but tells me the truth/reality abut situation.

I found some sample Hollister convexity bags!! I put one on an hr ago.

Wow, I had no idea that leakage could be a problem. Nevertheless, I have had a Hollister convexity on for nine hrs and I am so happy and relieved! I am beginning to relax. I have Coloplast and ConvaTec samples on the way. I hear Coloplast samples take forever to arrive.

I currently do not have a stoma but had a temporary colostomy years ago. Since I have multiple bm's each day my colon surgeon claims my life would be great improved by having a permanent inverted colostomy, one that I would irrigate each day. Wearing an AM Patch in between irrigations (fancy way of saying giving your ostomy an enema each day).

Well, we have LOUSY insurance, we might as well not even have it. My husband is self employed and he skipped a pay check last week to make payroll. His employees are down to 4 day work weeks right now. So needless to say our budget is extremely tight. There's no way I could even consider surgery at this point, let alone buy expensive irrigation equipment.

But as I read topics such as this one, I have to gently suggest that you may consider irrigation. My colon surgeon told me irrigation is so new, many ET nurses and doctors do not even suggest it to patients. But I have read on another colon/ostomy board of patients who faithfully irrigate every 24 or 48 hours and think this is the way to go.

Perhaps down the road when the economy picks up and I'm sick to death of spending hours in the bathroom each day, I might consider an inverted colostomy and try irrigation.

It may be worth at least asking your doctor if this would be an option for you? You would avoid more surgery also.

How do you keep the appliance on in pool?? I'm hesitant to take shower, and wrap the bag in plastic.

When my nurse gets back from Easter week vacation, I think I will ask her to order me some Coloplast one piece convexity bags. I'm surprised I don't have any here. I wonder if I could call them myself and ask for samples?

This coming week is going to be busy from Mon thru Thurs. On Tues I travel three hrs to have dye up my butt to see if my j pouch is ok. I hope my appliance holds well. It's still kinda scary for me to go out, esp four days in a row!

I love mine...... Im getting ready to take a shower and take mine off just because I go back to work tomorrow but it would have been 5 days at 930 in the morning. I dont itch with them like i did the others. I just love them.
