are you having a colostomy or an ileostomy?
anyway the questionswill still be close to the same.
When you go, wear clothes like you wear all the time, she will mark the area for your stoma and you want to make sure it is well placed for your clothing
Ask her about the dif kinds of bags, and go ahead and start ordering samples.
She may tell you of a bunch of stuff you need, most likely you wont need a good bit of it, lol. I had this huge list of stuff and we ordered all of it, and most of it has just sat there for two years!
You need to ask her about irrigation if you are having a colostomy.
If its an ileo you dont need to ask about that.
I am drawing a blank on other stuff.
here is something that is the most important thing i can think to tell you, i so wish i had known this.
When you wake up from surgery you will most likely have on a clear bag and be able to see EVERYTHING and the stuff that comes out of you is going to be this nasty nasty nuclear waste colored green stuff that will smell like death warmed over and killed again! I freaked out cause i thought it would always be like that.
BUT once you start eating, it will change, so by the 3rd or 4th day it should be better. I dont know if this happens with colostomies or not, but if they feed you red jello you will have red output tat looks like blood with an ileo!
its gonna hurt, so be sure you get with your dr about pain control before surgery.
Take some gas-x with you or make srue you hhave a script for it!
anyway, good luck and YAY for being healthy!
