reversal time peroid?

How long does it take after a takedown/reversal before you can venture away from the bathroom? I realize that it varies for everyone but I'm getting a little concerned. I've been reading a lot on here lately and I'm getting a bit worried.

Can anyone shed some light?

Well for me it was right away.  Sure, I still knew where all the restrooms in town were for the first 3 weeks after takedown but after that things got more predictable.

My takedown was 4/13, and I feel comfortable going out and not worrying about where the bathrooms are. I sort of know, since I had an ileostomy and would worry about that for emptying.

I don't have mine scheduled yet, but I am a little nervous. I was selected to be a camp counselor for a week for Camp Oasis. It's a camp for kids going through Crohn's and Colitis. I'm guessing that it will be about 3 wks after my takedown and I should still be able to go. I really want to go!!!!! Ahh...so many things going on with this crazy ileostomy!

I felt fine very soon after the surgery, but as I spent 10 postoperative days in hospital, my first bold adventures mostly included walks in the hospital park :-). When I came home, I started going out the very next day. Of course, I still know where all near bathrooms are but I feel comfortable and rarely use them.

Wow! What a positive post. It's so nice to hear that some people get back out in the real world
so quickly after take down!! I will have mine in 4 weeks and have been so worried. Did any of you lose any of your rectum>
I had Colorectal Cancer so I have lost most ( not all) of my rectum and a foot of my colon. What did they remove on you for the J pouch?
I think most of you have had all of your colon removed. How about the rectum?

I lost my entire colon and my entire rectum! I lost it all! I just want to be able to do things asap after the takedown. I'm worried that I won't be able to.

I'm an ex-UC patient, so I too lost my entire colon, rectum included.

As for the postop activities, you should avoid intensive and hard physical activities for a month or two. But some light and moderate activities, such as walking, are recommended.

It has been almost two months now from my reversal surgery, and I started roller skating and swimming. And it feels great!!!
