My Husband had an illeostomy reversal done Feb. 10th. He came out of the hospital and he was just starting to have some regulary bms. He then contracted salmonella food poisoning at a restaurant in March and stayed in the hospital for 10 days. Ever since then he has been having been having to run to the bathroom and sometimes not even making it. Everything that he eats he has diarrhea. I am very worried about
him and his health. He seems to be fading before my eyes. My once very strong and healthy husband has become an old and tired man before my eyes. I love him and want to help him. HELP!! What can he eat to stop this crazy diarrhea? What can we do?

I would suggest going back to the specialist and surgeon...he may have something more serious going one. I would also suggest checking with the www.j-pouch.org bunch if that's what he's had. There are some amazing people there!
I'm so sorry your husband is suffering. To thicken my output I eat baked potatoes. Maybe you can try that...but no skins...just the potato part. ??? I really do not know about
reconnect part, as I have a permanent ileo, but it's worth a try. I would definitely limit the fiber intake and though fluids are important, maybe stay away from juice and things that normally run straight through. B/c he's been so sick, he may be dehydrated. Can you take him to the ER of the hospital he had the surgery at?

Right now he does not want to go to the hospital or doctor plus he is in the heat of blueberry season for his job. I heard that eating marshmallows might also help. Is that true?

I agree with you. I will tell him about
the bananas and the potatoes. I will also continue to try to get him to go back to his doctor. Thank you for your help and concern. I hope that you are doing well. GOD bless you. Good night.
