For Loop Ileostomy Closures, was your stoma site left open or closed?

I have my takedown on Friday. I have heard mixed results about open and closed stoma sites? What did you guys have? I emailed my surgeon to find out what I will have but I haven't heard back yet.

Mine was left open, with drains.
But I had infection going on.
Then they had to pack it. Ick and Ouch.
I shudder to think about it.

So do you have a j-pouch?

I bet you're excited!!!!

Mine was closed with stitches. Really neat the way he did it...it looked like a pouchy drawstring when it was fresh but after the stitches were removed, I hardly even have a scar there now...it flattened out and looks great...you can hardly see it!!  Good luck with your reversal!!!....Cheryl

Before I had my perm ileo, I had a temporary. That scar is barely noticeable - not that it matters for me since my pouch covers it now. But, it really healed well and faded a lot.

Mine was closed with staples, but I had a large fluid pocket underneath it, that caused part of it to open up. I ended up packing it for some time. It's now completely closed, and the wound in my midline incision is now closed. woo hoo!! The scars for both are fading nicely.

Thanks everyone! I just heard back from my surgeon and it looks like they will be closing it with sutures!

Mine was closed with super glue.
