back in the hospital...this is so much harder than i thought

Im back in the hospital. I was released mon afternoon and was back tues night. I was vomitting so they thought i had a blockage. It doesn't look that way anymore but whenever i try to drink anything more than sips I get crappy and feel like death. I don't know what to do. My doc wants to just wait and see and its killing me. The morphine doesn't even touch my cramps. HELP! I don't nkow what to do? Will this get better....My bag is gone but I never thought the reversal was going to be this hard!!!!!!!!!

gosh i'm so sorry you're having such a hard time, Holly :o( i hope they sort everything out soon and you can start feeling better. keep us updated. you're in my prayers.

I'm so sorry you're back in the hospital. My heart goes out to you.  

Since you can't keep anything down and you have severe abdominal pain, it sounds like you have a kink or partial blockage.

I've been through it several times and what they would do with me is tell me to stop eating and drinking and give me an NG tube to keep me from throwing up. They would hydrate me with IV fluids and take X-Rays to see what's going on. If it's a partial blockage, it will unblock fairly quickly. 

I hope they find out what's wrong and fix it, so you can feel better soon! You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Today I got an NG tube and a PICC line. I hope I spelled that correct. Things are going a little better since I got the NG tube but man did that hurt going in! My docs want to still want and see, they think that my pouch and intestines are a little slow waking up. How do I get them to move it move it?? I have been walking and foot tapping...etc! This really sucks!!!!

I know, NG's are the worst going in! It's so much better when they take it out. PICC lines are great. They keep you from getting stuck with needles, especially during those wonderful 2 a.m. blood draws!

Walking lots and chewing gum will help wake up your intestines. I hope they start moving soon, so you can get the NG tube out and go home. I'm praying for that!

Yes, it sounds like you have an ileus.  The best thing you can do is WALK, WALK, and WALK!!  The intestines need exercise to wake up.  This is not uncommon for this surgery; it's happened to many.  Don't let it get you down.

I had my takedown on the 19th on june and been in the hospital since then, when do you think i will get out of here???? I still have the ng in but it is running clear right now. I am passing stool and not much gas but a little has come out. How long do you think I have with ileus? or a partial blockage?


I feel like I"m dying in here guys... i need help and positive thoughts to get my out of here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since you're passing stool and gas, they should clamp off the NG and let you start drinking small sips of water. After about 12 hours without the NG running, if you're not nauseated or vomiting, they should take it out and let you start eating a soft diet.

Hang in there, you are doing GREAT and will be eating, drinking, and going home very soon!!!!!!

I am still in the hospital. On Tuesday I had another abdominal xray and a paracentesis (sp). The xray was fine but the having a5 in long needle jabbed into my abdomen several times hurt so bad. They said they numbed it but that doesn't include the peritoneal lining which suck for me I guess. Well, they pulled out some fluid that showed bacteria which means at some time I had a leak which is no loner active. My stomach is distended and hurts. Things are feeling better today and I will get some full liquids later. I have a CT this morning to see how much fluid and where it is located inside yet. It is looking like I should be able to go home soon. I am hoping by the end of the weekend!

Thanks for the update. I'm so sorry to hear you had a leak, but am glad they finally found out what's going on. I'm in the hospital right now, too. Had surgery on Wednesday to reverse a temporary ileostomy. I was allowed to have liquids this morning and had my first tray of full liquids at dinner tonight. It tasted so good. Enjoy! I hope you get to go home soon!
