Hello all

I am (fingers crossed if XRay goes ok on Friday) going to have my end illeostomy reversed on Monday. I have had it since mid March and when it was created as a cure for hirschsprung's disease. For the first surgery I was in the hospital for about 3 weeks because they had to go back in and fix the loop illeostomy and turn it into an end one because the loop flipped. I have been dealing with things and pretty much back to normal (tired of bag and still restricted on what I can eat) and ready for the reversal. What can I expect after the reversal? Doc said a couple days in hospital and then would be home and could resume normal activity.

I currently have two ileostomies (one temporary and one permanent) and am having the temporary one reversed on Wednesday. I don't know what to expect either (except another abdominal incision and a few days in the hospital) and would also like to hear from anyone who has had this done.

Good luck with your surgery on Monday! I'll be thinking about you.

I just had my ileostomy reversed, on June 10th. So far it has been a very difficult recovery with the never ending bms and the inevitable hemmorhoids and burning. I discovered this site and am going to take some of the suggestions for diet to heart and give them a try. So far I haven't ventured out much as my fatigue level is low. If I do go anywhere, I don't eat for hours before leaving the house. I guess it is going to take sometime to get back to normal, they say 3 to 12 months.

I don't get why you have TWO ileostomies....?

I haven't heard that you go through that with reversal.
Could you explain that to me?

Also......well, never mind, I don't want to take up this thread by posting all my questions. I'll start another.

I know, it's confusing! I had a proctocolectomy in 2006 and have had a permanent ileostomy ever since. Two months ago, I had a small bowel blockage and perforation and had to have emergency surgery to resection the area that perforated. The surgeon gave me a temporary ileostomy to bypass the area, so it could heal. The surgery I'm having tomorrow will reverse the temporary one, so I can go back to using the permanent one. Hope that makes sense! :)

Good luck with your upcoming reversal!!  I had mine reversed on Mar 9th and everything went great!  I was admitted to hospital on Monday, had surgery on Monday and was home on Thursday!  I never had any of the problems I have read so much about...ie constant diarrhea, butt burn, etc... I was very lucky in that I was bothered the other way with constipation and had to get things moving initially with Milk of Magnesia and prune juice.  My recovery time was really quick as well.  I was driving the car the second week I was home and feeling great!  Now I use ground flax seed twice daily to keep things moving well.  The only problem I had post op was with the stoma site.  There was a stitch inside that didn't dissolve and caused an infection in the stoma site.  He gave me antibiotics and it seemed to settle down.  My surgeon told me that it may start to fester again and will have to be removed but it's a simple procedure done right in his office.  Well, it started bothering me again last week (YUK) and I made an appt for Friday for him to freeze and remove it.  So...long story shortened....I had a great reversal and am feeling so very blessed.  I wish the same for you!......Cheryl
