Hi Everyone,

Just thought I would update you all on my most recent surgery. Last thursday 30/7 I had my ileostomy made final by having the proctocolectomy done, it was sooner than both my surgeon and I thought I would need to have it done but my rectum was seriously diseased as well so the surgeon said the sooner the better, I only had my ileostomy done in early March and have barely recovered from that surgery. Anyway my butt is soooooo sore its not funny, I cant get over the pain, and surprised at how much stitching is done down there. I am on endone for pain at the moment so Im a little out of it. Now my eyes have flared again with iritis and my rhuemy has put me on methotrexate again for the athritis, he said it should help my eye problem as well, but so far nothing is giving. Anyway Im off to rest up I cant sit for too long. take care all and thanks for listening

Hi andorable,

So do you have a permanent ileostomy now? Did you know that was going to be the end result when you had your first surgery in March? When you went in for your second surgery, did you know they were going to do a proctocolectomy?

I ask because I had my first surgery at the end of May, and I was told my rectum was still very diseased. At that time, he wasn't even able to create the j-pouch because it was so diseased. So right now, I have a temp ileo and once I regain my strength and get back to a normal weight (I lost 30 lbs prior to surgery due to UC) I'll go in for the second of three surgeries to have the j-pouch created. But my worry is, what if it's still too diseased? Will I wake up with a perm ileo and a sewed up butt??

I did know that would be my end result as I have both crohns/colitis apparently there was no other option for me. Im sure you wont just wake up with a sewn up butt they would have to prepare you for that. In my case I knew it was gonna happen just didnt know it would be so soon, originally my surgeon thought we could wait about 12 months but I continued to bleed from my rectum to the point I was anemic so we had to do it sooner. I am having some probs getting my head around it all but I am so glad I have you guys to talk to. I believe that if you have UC you have a better chance of J-Pouch surgery than if it was crohns.
