I was assigned to a home care service named east/west home health. For some reason, now more than a week after being released from the hospital, they haven't sent me any supplies yet. I just put on the last bag I had because my last bag leaked.

In the meantime I have seen the nurse three times. Nurse is super nice and awesome, bur seems like the office staff is lazy. The case manager told me that they just put in the authorization with the insurance today and it could be another two days. That seems unacceptable to me. How does this seem to everyone else. Also what can I do in a pinch. I don't have any more bags so once this one comes lose, I'm in big trouble.

well im not sure what country you live in, but in the US the home health care people arent usually the ones who bring your supplies, you have to order them yourself from somewhere. I use edgepark, some people go to stores that sell them. we dont have one around here.
You can call your ET and see about getting some more bags for now, or you can check your area medical supply stores that are near by and see if they sell them

My home care nurse always had extra bags with her. I'd suggest asking your nurse - she might be able to give you a few to hold you over.

Did everyone --in the US--have a home healthcare nurse? I did not and just wondered if I'm in the minority.

I did for my first ileo but it was more for the 'spaghetti' drain they let me go home with...odd shape and had to be changed less often than my ileo so I only had a few visits...I think 3 total.

justjen-that depends on your insurance and what your dr orders.
My insurance would pay for like 3 or 4 weeks, with 2 or 3 visits per week, but honestly i found her useless. My husband is a nurse so he could check my vitals. And she didnt know much about ostomies, they arent specialized, its not that she was stupid or anything, just not soemthing she dealt with often. she came twice and after she told me to take a pin and put a small hole in my bag to let the air out, i decided i didnt need her, lol.

I think they also come more if you have a wound that needs to be packed and checked.

I've got really good insurance. It pays 100% for 100 visits a year. The nurse they send is a wound and ostomie specialist.

i had a home health nurse, sometimes they do carry some of the supplies but maybe not ones you use. I had to order mine through a supply company.
Thank god my insurance pays 100%
Did you try to contact your doctor for advise on whom covers your supplies ?
