I have had it with animals, lol

I got stung by a wasp and it got infected, so now i have to take antibitoics, which i sooo do not want to do,, since thats what ended me up with UC in the first place!!!


Anyway i havent taken any since i got my bag, is there anything i need to do? 

Like take something or eat something different?  i dont know what kind of effect its going to have.  I used to get a flare fromthem, obviously thats not gonna happen since i dont have a colon,lol, but im wondering if it will do something.

I don't know if things are the same for you as they are for me because I had a subtotal & still have 2 in of colon left but when I had my kidney surgery in May my urologist overmedicated me with keflex & I ended up with C difficile infection, was extremely ill and almost died.  Another person on here said their dr told them they always need to be on probiotics when they are on any antibiotics.  I am on a probiotic permanently from my GI, it's not a standard one from the drug store but one from a health food store with certain cultures and also had to eat super yogurt from wegman's 3 times a day.  My NEW urologist also put me on an over the counter probiotic in addition to this one & my GI said that was good too.  You might want to check with your PCP or your surgeon about a probiotic.

Hope this helps and you feel better soon.  We want good, funny stories from you not hurting stories:(

lol well i caught CeCe on Facebook before i went and got my meds and she suggested i get some accdiphouls (yeah i know its spelled wrong, im not even trying!) so it got some of that that also had probiotics in it. So hopefully that will help!

or you could eat activia yogurt to reculture your gut. probiotics always made me gassy.

well it says not to eat yogurt when you are taking this medicine! WHAT??? i have never heard of that, lol. so hopefully this probiotics stuff will help. But has anyone noticed them giving you a werid taste in your mouth and icky smell to your output? im not sure if its the cipro or the probitoics!

Hi summerstorm,

I would also recommend the probiotics. I took Amoxicillin in January and I swear it is what started this flare that I am currently in and actually in the hospital for right now:( I forgot to take the probiotics and here I am... I think mine are called culterelle and they are over the counter. I don't remember about getting a weird taste in my mouth though?

If you are on Cipro, I lived on that for YEARS....Fistulas, etc...:(...

I always found yeast infections to be my problem...I took Probiotics (I bought them at a natural foods store...EXPENSIVE) sometimes, but to be honest, WITH an ileostomy I never noticed a difference if I took them for two months and stopped taking them. It might be different if a patient has a pouch, but I never noticed any improvement in my 'gut' while taking them AND on antibiotics.

I found that my surgeon says not to waste money on the expensive ones and if I'm really set on having probiotics to eat a GOOD yogurt...but not the ones that are loaded with sugar (just read a label and you'll know the ones I'm referring too!).

Now, remember, what I just said refers to ME WITH AN ILEO, not a pouch or colostomy....AND we are all so different!

i have an ileo, i bought a thing of probiotics that cost like 6 dollars, lol.
I wish i could have just eaten yogurt, you know i wonder if the reason you arent supposed to eat yogurt is because of the same bacteria i am taking...hmmmm???

I got stung by one 5 days ago!! I have this huge big spot on thigh where it stung. It made me feel sick for a few days and I took some antihistmines. I heard that made swelling go down. Why the antibiotics? Still huge and red and itchy on me. Of course I'm still on nice pain pills from surgery so that has helped. think I should go to the Dr? I just went yesterday and that was enough!!! Kind of want to curl in on myself right now.

the anitbiotics are because it got infected, i have cellulitis (i dont know if thats how you spell it or not) my husband is a nurse and he informed me of this,lol.
I took some zyrtec last night (allergic to bendadry, of course) and it didnt itch quite as bad but i still feel icky.
If its hot to the touch, and it is still swollen or if its getting bigger you might should go to the dr. Or at least call your dr and ask them.

Summerstorm,

Depending on the antibiotic you are suppose to avoid dairy products because (bear with me here) there is a lot of calcium which chemically is a 2+ and this binds easily to the antibiotic in your system. If the Ca is binding to the antibiotic it makes it less effective in your body and in some cases makes it null and void so it would seem like you weren't taking it at all.

I take Floragen3 a probiotic with good bacteria to boost gastrointestinal health. They also make Floragen which is a super power of acidophilus. I know they are expensive but it is totally worth it.

But good news! Jason told the dr that the meds were making me sick and she asked if it was looking better and he told her yes and she said i dcould quit taking them and just watch it closely!
So YAY no more, for now anyway, lol.

You might try a topical antihistamine cream... it helps the itching from the outside layer some. I got stung by a hornet several times last year on my foot, swelled 1/2 way up my calf, finally went to the clinic, put on steroids for the inflammation (not infection tho). The topical stuff helped when I couldn't stand it. And I also used ice. For what that's worth, hope it helps.
