I have a temp end ileostomy, and I currently use Coloplast SenSura one-piece bags. However, when I cut the whole for my stoma, I have to cut it larger to get it to fit over the stoma. But then there is a gap at the base of the stoma. This hasn't bothered me too much, but once in a while it is bothersome. Would paste or tape help this? What kind of paste/tape is best? My ostomy nurse was a firm believer in using the least amount of products as possible. So she didn't recommend using pastes or tapes. But since I know I will have an ileostomy for several more months, I want to make sure I don't irritate my skin unnecesarily over time. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Ron, that was my system for YEARS...with my 'new' ileo I cannot use the moldable:( I don't get enough support since I REALLY need convexity

The way my stomach is, after so many surgeries, is a little 'dippy' and convexity pulls my stoma up so it will empty into the pouch. It is kind of hard to explain but the wafer is more cup like where regular wafers are flat. does that make sense? Peggy has a good way of explaining it...maybe she'll be around:)

Yes, and you can get them with more convexity, it's just that the 'moldable' area isn't durable enough, for me, but I do love the system...maybe someday I'll be able to use it again:)

Thanks for the suggestions. Since my first post, I have requested samples of Adapt Barrier Rings from Hollister. And I am going to call Convatec to get samples of the Eakin Seal and also find out about
the moldable options.

Even though its a little messier, I like the stomahesive paste over the rings. By nature you get a better seal. It just adds a few minutes to the cleanup when you take off your appliance.

I cut my wafer and use paste and a seal ring both from hollister. I like it and once I started using them together I was able to get a close fit and molds around the stoma.
Good luck! and if you have insurance paying for it, try different products until you find what works. Even if it is only for a few months. I thought I would be reconnected by now and I'm still bagging it...

I use the same system as NASCARon and I love it. Right after the surgery they gave me some Hollister bags, but I could not get a good seal going for more than a day. I think the key to success is the rigid plastic on the skin barriers.
