Gas pains post reversal

I am still in the hospital; I had my reversal Friday afternoon. I am having soooo much gas pains- they are excruciating. THe doctor says this is normal... Really?

Any insight would be appreciated. It is hard to walk for too long because of the pain. THey have taken me off the dilaudid and on tablet Percocet. I guess the good news is I am going to the bathroom a lot.

PLease let me know that this will subside soon.

WOW, You've been through a lot. My only guess would be, as long as you are going the bathroom a lot, you will likely be OK.

It's odd that you'd have such gas if you are passing stool. Was your reversal done laporoscopically? If so, they do inflate the abdomen with air when they do that. Could your gas pains be from that rather than intestinal gas that you produce? Hope this helps. Good Luck. Rosemary

Hi Jackie! Congrats on your reversal!  I too had horrible gas pains after mine.  It was excrutiating, but I walked and walked and drank hot drinks (tea, etc) to bring out the gas.  It absolutely does get better!!  {{hugs}}}..Cheryl

yes the gas is normal, but it will go away! get some gas-x!!! that will help alot! and if you can stand it, lay on your left side, or rock
also, take some gas-x in the morning and hten again in the afternoon, that way you can keep it from happening

oh my, my reversal is scheduled in two weeks, i didnt know it would be painful, i know it wont be as bad as it was waking up after the proctocolectomy, that was terrible! hope you are feeling better

Thanks guys-

Today, i am feeling a little better. The doctor sent me some nausea medicine... and am going to the bathroom pretty regularly. Trying to balance Percocet, nausea meds, and eating/drinking. Got more rest today. I know this is a slow process of recovery- trying to be patient.

sounds like the pain i had from my second surgery-it sucked.
thankfully for me I have absolutely no gas pains at all from my reversal. Apart from the horrible butt burn I just got rid of, I'm doing really well 6 days after my take down.
Gas-X and Nausea medicine is a good to place to start. It should be cleared up in couple days. hang in there and read my other post on my thread! blush
