Packing stoma closure wound

So my new fun thing I get to do for the next several weeks is to pack my new stoma closure wound. I had a bit of an infection under the staples so they were removed and a river of fluid had formed. Now I have a big wound that I get to put gauze in twice a day.

PLEASE any advice- suggestions, tips, - anything to help me out with this. I see the doctor next week to see progress it is a rather large wound.

Tell me this will be alright.

Good news is my jpouch is working well, I don't have butt burn (YET) and I am start to eat again.

glad things are working well!!! I'm gonna guess it is wet-to-dry? Just make sure it's WET...I used one of those sterile qtip type things to make sure I got the gauze in where it was supposed to be. You'll be surprised how quickly it will close:) don't get discouraged!

oh, if it's not wet when you change it, wet it, so it doesn't pull skin.

I have to wet the gauze with saline solution and then pack. I just changed it for the first time a few minutes ago. It is a very deep wound. I am a little worried. BUt I did Ok. A little grossed out but ok. It hurt a little; I guess more like discomfort. After I pack it, I put gauze over it and tape it.

I was told to do this twice a day!!!

1 out of 4 ppl will get an infection at the closure site..luckily for me mine this didnt happen

When I had my ostomy reversed my wound opened back up. It was so gross because the hole was sooooo deep. We used a flashlight to look inside. It was nasty but also interesting. I remember it did hurt to pack it. I had this bottle that had a long cloth like ribbon in it. And I used a Q Tip to push it in the hole. Then I put a big bandage over it. But once it got mostly healed it itched something awful!!!!

Thank you Taurus- That makes me feel better. Yesterday when I first did this on my own, I thought I couldn't do this again. It was much easier today- but yeah! that wound is deep!!

That is funny about using a flashlight. That is so true! How often did you pack the wound a day. I am doing it twice a day now and sometimes the outer gauze gets wet so I have to change more than twice.

I was also packing mine twice a day. My doctor would tell me to get in the shower without the packing and bandage. That way the shower water could get inside the hole. Yuck! Not fun.
