A little stoma humor

I thought this was so funny that I had to share it with you guys.

Yesterday I attended a First Aid course at work. Everyone in our department must take it. At the end of the course we had a multiple choice checkout. One of the questions was as follows:

When AR (artificial resuscitation) is given to an infant, it is given mouth to __________.

a) Stoma

b) Nose

c) Mouth and nose

d) Mouth

When I read answer a), I couldn’t stop laughing. It created these strange images in my mind. After the test I mentioned it to another person and he didn’t even know what a stoma was.

That was an odd choice to put on the test!

When my husband was in the hospital, the wound care nurse came his room. I was there too, so she was instructing both of us.

As she was talking about his stoma, she told me, "Now you can tell everyone that you know your husband - inside and out!" LOL

It’s possible they meant a tracheotomy stoma but having had a temporary ileostomy recently, that is not what I was thinking when I read it.

The correct answer is c) Mouth and nose.

Actually, I think those that might have said "A" could argue the point.  If I remember correctly, I think stoma means "mouth" in Latin!
