Boil on bottom

 Has anyone ever had a terribly painful boil- like bump on your bottom after colectomy? I had a total colectomy 2 years ago which left me with nothing but a little anus that gives me fits because it drains all the time. But this is the first time I have had this pain in the butt. cry I cannot sit down or walk.

have you had abcesses/fistulas before? Are you running a fever? You might want to make an appt with your doc and have it checked.

Thanks for the reply, Ohio 76. I was freaking out about the pain. Now I can remember so many people on here commenting on abscesses/fistulas and the pain that they cause. Somehow I thought I was exempted from that misery-not. Now I can relate. I will going 130 miles tomorrow to see my surgeon. I should be a basket case when I get there. This is so painful.

nene - my heart goes out to you. Butt sores are very painful. It is one of the worst pains I have ever experienced. I hope your Dr can help you.

I had an abscess on my lower butt cheek once, and it was the most pain I've ever felt! Is there someone who can drive you to your appointment? If so, I suggest taking some pain medicine and lying down in the back seat. Mine had to be surgically opened up, which required anesthesia and a few days in the hospital, so be prepared with a small bag of necessities, just in case the doctor suggests that. Take care, dear. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Wish I would have read your post before I headed north to see my surgeon. He did think it was necessary for me to go into the hospital and have the abscess opened up. Well I wasn't prepared to stay the night. So my husband and I drove all the 130 miles back home, packed, and headed north again. We just stayed in a Jameson Inn for a few hours before the procedure the next morining. Like most things in life, you learn by experience. I think I will be fine now. At least the pain is gone.

Jennie--and I bet you had to drive in that awful rain we had eyes

Glad you are feeling better...sitz baths and antibiotics for now? Take it easy!

 Had the abscess cleaned out in the hospital. I saw the doctor 2 weeks ago and am scheduled to see him next Thurs. Here is what is going on now, three more hard boil-like sores all over the bottom area. This is not what i signed up for with this surgery 2 1/2 years ago. I really can take the appliances , bags and so , but pain is not acceptable. shakehead

Jennie~sorry to hear there are more! Are you running a fever, even a low grade one? If so, don't mess around, and call your doc in the am...if you have more abscesses, you want to address them quickly. You may want to call them, either way, and let them make the decision.

I am sorry I cannot remember, but what is your original diagnosis?

I had UC for years. Two and a half years ago during a routine colonoscopy my doctor found high grade dysplasia. So I had to have a total proctocolectomy. Everything is gone except a small bit of anus that drains all the time. I really haven't had much trouble with the ostomy until recently.
