Worried about sexual side effects after Jpouch. Anybody (male) has any input?

I am considering surgery and Jpouch due to years of UC that only responds to prednisone. The surgeon mentioned that 1 to 3% of people would experience sexual side effects such as impotence or infertility afterwards and I am scared. Can any of the males comment on this? Thanks!!!!

I am a Mom but I can tell you what we were told concerning our son. Yes, 1-3% of people experience sexual side effects but they are mostly not permanent and most of the impotency problems can be helped with Viagra. Infertility it due to mechanical problems and not that sperm is not being made. Thus...the docs can always go in and get sperm if needed. All in all the possibility of having a permanent problem that can not be dealt with is very very low.

Thanks for the feedback, Collicat. I was also told the same thing about the Viagra and I was wondering if anybody here had any problems and how they were dealing.

So far none on this or the jpouch forum has claimed a problem. I was fine after part one of three. I just got my cathetor removed after two of three. I should know if I'm fine within a week. There isn't any chance of having a problem from the takedown (part three of three)

Yesterday I had an erection start to form while I was urinating. I'm prety sure tats a clear indication that I wont be having a problem in that area.

I'm about 5 months post-takedown and have not noticed any sexual side-effects.
