Part 2 of 3 jpouch surgery done, but had a problem

I had my surgery done yesterday. It went much better than the last surgery because I was in much better health. However there was a problem that may turn in to a big deal. My rectum was still inflamed from the colitis. The surgeon completed the surgery but told me there is a chance that won't heal properly. If that happens, I'll end up with a permanent ileostomy. Please pray for me that that is not the case.

I'll probably be in the hospital for another 5-7 days. I'm still in a lot of pain, but it is lessening. I just have to keep on the pain pump.

John - As a fellow 3-stepper coming up on surgery #2 I'm wondering if there were any indications that you now know were signs of UC inflammation. I have what I think is the standard mucus discharge from my stump and so far just once have had blood with the mucus (last week) and it has gone away. I'm wondering if this is something that I should be concerned about and have addressed before surgery #2 on Jan 4. I agree with Suebear and Ohio76 that it doesn't make sense to me but in the interest of having everything go as smoothly as possible would like additional info. Please let us know what you find out.

John - Thanks so much for the information. That calms my fears a bit. I'm over 3 months out from surgery #1 and this was the first blood I'd seen. I really felt the need to push so I did and that's when I had blood and mucus. It hasn't happened since so hopefully it was just a random moment that won't happen again and wasn't a sign of increased inflammation. *fingers crossed* I'm glad to hear that you seem to be healing well and don't anticipate a problem for the next surgery.
