 I am a worrier by nature. Suppose I go on a flight and have to go through a body scanner. I tell the attendant I have an ostomy but they scan me anyway. The plastic bag appears. The attendant says I must strip down because "they" have rules that must be followed. How humiliating would that be? I think I will not fly anymore. My husband thinks my workload is too light.

I fly all the time and have never had an issue with it.  The closest I came to an 'encounter' if you will, was that a guy asked what goes in the bag lol.  No other security guards have even picked up on it...

Also if you're doing any travelling between Canada and the USA I recommend getting a Nexus membership. No waiting in lines for hours. I believe there's a USA/Mexico program as well

I have a full sleeve tattoo and as such, am ALWAYS "randomly selected" for screening. Even last year on our way to my wedding in Las Vegas, I had my mum, 79 y/o grandma and a bunch of family, not to mention my WEDDING dress with me and I was "randomly selected". Needless to say they always ask "do you have a medical appliance?" as part of the process and I always anwser "no." Now, I will be able to say "yup" and show off Oscar (my ostomy!) proudly. Im a strange bird though, I am inordinately proud of my ostomy and the life it has given me and I have no issue showing him to anyone who is curious and even those who aren't! LOL. I think years of pooping in my pants and making excuses as to why I can't go to a concert/movie/dinner has made me realize Oscar is the best thing that could have possibly happened. If being "randomly selected" is to happen to me, and trust me, it will, I will not be humiliated or ashamed but will hold my head up high, pull up my shirt with my tattooed arm, look the security guard in the eye and show off Oscar to all who dare to look.

I want body scanners used....and if that means someone will 'see' my appliance, have at it!!!

I would rather feel safe and STAY alive while at the same time LIVE my life~I wasn't able to do that for so long shakehead

LOL this is so funny, cause i actually came on to post a question about this! i was wondering if an xray at an airport or soemthign could see the bag through your clothes. And if they would ask about it. I mean i figure you could just explain it and i suspect if they demanded to see inside it and you had to open it for them, well they would be sorry!
On a lighter note though, i was going to a concert a while back, and they search your purse and stuff to make sure you dont bring in liquor. And someone and i were talkign and she said, you could have everyone put on a pouch and each fill it with liquor or a mixer! LOL!

I've travelled quite a bit and had my luggage gone through. When they got to my ileostomy bags, they didn't even bap an eyelid - they've seen it all before!

FWIW, I travel a lot as well, and have never had a problem.  I have probably gone on about 100 flights( seriously!) since my surgery!  Don't sweat it!

No worries, Nene. I could think of worse things than showing your pouch to a total stranger (ie: rectal exam shocked)

Seems to me that unless the TSA declares an ostemy bag to be a weapon, that it's the screener's problem and not yours.
