My husband has surgery about 3 weeks ago and is doing great, thank you God! We found out in 2008 he had UC and he has lost over 70 lbs. in 4-5 months. He lived near the bathroom and none of the meds worked. The doctor wanted him to use a pouch so the colon could rest and maybe heal. We will see in 4 months if they will reattach or if the colon is still "sick" they will take the colon out and do the jpouch.
Our problem now is we can not get the pouches to stay 3-5 days like the nurse said they shoud. We have had to put on a new pouch for the last 3 days. They either leak or we see where they are leaking about 3 or 4 inches around the stoma and getting on his skin. We have used the one piece bags and the two piece bags the hospital sent home and Hollister sent samples for us to use. We use the paste (Adapt) from Hollister, but it doesn't seem to help either. He has had some that stayed on 5 days without leaking. When he went back to the doctor the week after the surgery the pouch the nurse put on even leaked around the circle where the pouch attached (2 piece system) and was all over his skin. Do we need a new kind, more practice, any suggestions would be appreciated.
