Do you think people can have phantom pain at the site of the resection?
I never heard of this side effect but a pain doctor told me about
that.

Funny you should ask this. I just said to my husband last night that I was having some pain and it felt like I had to go to the bathroom through my rectum - which is gone - I just had a total proctectomy/colectomy 3 weeks ago. And I was wondering if I could be having phantom-like sensations/pain like amputees have. I would be interested to see what others say!!

In Sept., I was given a diverting colostomy due to diverticulosis. In Dec., it was reversed.
When I had the colostomy, I was convinced a BM was in the works although it never occurred, just gas.
However, when I was prepping for the reversal, enema, some poop did come out!
Since the reversal, I can feel when something is passing the spot where the stoma was. Time will tell if this goes away as it continues to heal.
