Hi everyone!  I am so happy to announce that I am having my reversal surgery this upcoming Tuesday, 2/2.   I had another flexible sigmoidoscopy today and my surgeon said that my anal opening looked more open and he only had to dilate m a little!  He is letting me keep my surgery date for this Tuesday and I can't tell you how ecstatic I am!!!!

So now I have to get things in order for surgery.   I know that I have read that gas pain and butt burn are usually the biggest complaints after surgery but can someone give advice on what to do for these.  Sorry, but I feel like I need to hear again how to prepare myself.  Even though I am thrilled, I am still getting nervous.  Any other advice is much appreciated!

Congrats Nutz!!  Awesome news!  I had not problems with butt burn or anything after my reversal...I hope yours goes as smoothly as mine did...Good luck!!.....Cheryl

Thanks Bev and Cheryl! I will update as I am able! Even better news, now my surgery has been bumped to this Monday, February 1st. I know it's only one day different but I cannot wait!

Cheryl, how many times would you poop a day?

I actually had a problem with constipation after my reversal.  I just couldn't go at all!  I tried Milk of Magnesia and that worked along with prune juice.  Then my surgeon told me that sometimes a suppository will get things moving from the other end more effectively than anything orally.  That got me going and it was fine after that.  I still have constipation issues but I had them before surgery too (IBS)...I'm telling u all this just to give you some thoughts from the other end of the spectrum as most people have diarrhea and butt burn while I had the oposite....My surgery went really well.  I was admitted on Monday, surgery same day and released from hospital on Thursday.  Recovery time was much quicker than the original surgery.  They say they wont release u until you've had a bm but I didn't have one in hospital at all and they still let me come home.  It was several days after being home before I could get things going.  I'm sure you'll do fine through it all.  You must be very excited.  I know I was!!  I feel so blessed that things went so well for me.  I pray the same for you!!! ....Cheryl

Hi Cheryl. Wow, thanks for the insight. I am really excited and have been wanting this for so long but I am VERY nervous. I think even more so than the first surgery. I just don't like not knowing what the outcome is going to be and the fact that it takes a year or so to get back to "normal." Thanks for the prayers...I need them!

good luck nutz! i'm scheduled for takedown a week after you on the 11th. i was actually originally scheduled for the 2nd as well but rescheduled my surgery date to accommodate work.

i'm stocked up on imodium & metamucil and will be buying some calmoseptine ointment soon.

oh, and of course i've gotta load up my ipod touch again with a bunch of movies for the hospital stay. :-)

Hi Nutz,

I am hoping that everything is going smoothly today. I am so happy for you. My son, Dillon, is having his reversal the first of March so we will be waiting to hear your insights.

Good luck Nutz!! I hope everything goes smoothly tomorrow!! I had my reversal surgery, April 13th, 2009. Did it hurt?? yes!! but it was so worth it!! I didn't have butt burn afterwards, but I had an ileostomy, because of a perforated bowel, not for IBS, or Crohns. I did have an ileus after surgery, but I also hadn't been out of bed, and moving. I was on complete bedrest until the saturday after my surgery. I had surgery on Monday, and was on bedrest until Saturday. I went home, 8 days after surgery, on darvocet for pain. I have a VERY high pain tolerance. I hope and pray your surgery goes smoothly for you.

Hey just wanted to let you kno i did have some butt burning and went to the bathroom about 10 times a day for about a month but it did NOT take me even 2 months to feel normal again and i had my reversal Jan 9, 2009. I dont know why everyone keeps saying that!! It was the best thing that ever happened to me!! hope your surgery went well!
