Hello everyone! I am not new to healing well,however I am usually on the crohn's site. Just looking around here for a little advice. My colon/rectal doc @ duke is giving me time to consider returning tothat lovely little bag. I have tried all the big gun drugs,old, and every diet known to man. I continue to be inconient sp? I and my husband are sooooooo tired of changing the sheets every day. I am sick of these fistula's, abcesses,medications. I am too thin. Never thought I would say that, but @ 51, I look and feel.... well...sick. Any advice????

Have the ostomy surgery. Your quality of life will improve 100%. I've not met anyone who has regretted surgery for UC or Crohn's.

I had my surgery Feb 23 and even with some complications I would say it is the best decision. I too did have control problems and was NOT going to stay on those funky meds any longer. I have had some people who say to me I am so sorry you have to have this...and I tell them.. no, feel sorry I had to deal with all the problems asociated with UC. My "fish tank" is a piece of cake..it gurgles some and needs cleaning on a regular basis!tongue

rovin1959~DITTO...I have a great quality of life now AND NO FISTULAS:)

I will say that my proctocolectomy was not easy...but oh, so worth it! I was 40, and had had too many surgeries to count, so I thought I knew what to expect eyes but I was not prepared to have such a long recovery. Every day was easier, don't get me wrong, I just wanted to be out and about sooner than I was!

I am on no meds and every time my doc asks if I have problems with my weight...I laugh! I've found a good 40 of those, too!! I am healthy and happy and ready to enjoy my next 50 smilewinkgrin

Thanks so much for the replies!! I need all the input you are willing to give. The last time I wore the bag I had the worst time with my stoma. My skin kept breaking down. The recovery was tough,pretty much alone,however I got through it. Pictures of myself that summer were good. I put on lots of weight!! I guess we can't e-mail each other so....... talk to me when you can. Many, many, thanks!

i say do it too!
Once you get your ileo system down, which will be easier with a perm one, you shouldnt have problems
