Just had subtotal colectomy... When will the pooping stop????

roxanedaz123~you may want to check out the Total Colectomy thread. Many who post there have had similar problems with and without an ostomy as the outcome.

If you have colonic inertia and choose just to remain living with it, do you die of cancer eventually or from a blockage? Excuse my ignorance. Im just terrified this is my road ahead. thanks

Hi All,
I had a subtotal colectomy in December of 2013 for a second primary colon cancer (actually was stage 4 because this one migrated further along the colon. I have about 3 or 4 inches of Colorectal left and the small intestines were connected to that. I go to the bathroom anywhere from 5 times to 20 times a day. I would love to here from anyone as to how they are doing and if it ever gets any better.

since this is a very old thread, I suggest you start a new thread with your own topic title. Hopefully you will get some answers. Sorry I dont have any experience with your type of surgery. Best wishes.

Hi I am 5 months post a subtotal hemi colectomy, I had a cecal volvulus with blockage due to a embryonic malrotation and adhesions. I am 46 and went from running a 10k to an emergency surgery with an incision from ribs to pubic and help walking and steading myself for weeks. I still go to the bathroom 4-12 times a day never any regularity, I had a nissen 10 years ago and have had bloating and pain with eating since then. I am a OR nurse and am not able to physically and mentally handle it so I am now in the Pre op area. Thankful I am able to work. I have multiple adhesions and a partial blockage. I feel like it is either slow the bowels down and have pain and worry of another blockage or diarrhea so bad I can't function. Is there a point to when I will learn to live a normal life and have some energy and routine. Thanks for letting me join in your group. It helps hearing there are others out there with similar problems.
