warm enema?

I have to go for a barium enema, I think it is called, to make sure that my j-pouch is all healed with no leaks. My doctor told me that to prep for this I need to do a warm enema. Before I ask my doc I was wondering if any of you have done this and if you would care to share what the hell it is? Thank you, all!

I'm assuming its where they fill the jpouch up with warm water to flush anything out?

What you are having done is called a pouchoscopy. It's a contrast xray done to ensure your pouch has no leaks so the surgeon can go ahead and schedule the reversal surgery. They will fill your pouch with contrast fluid and then you will have several xrays taken while lying on a table. It's really no big deal. However, take extra ostomy supplies in the event that your ostomy springs a leak. Some of the contrast does end up going in the bag, as I recall.

do I have to do any preps though for this? I was a little confused as to what the doctor's assistant was telling me. They are unavailble now, so I was just wondering what a warm enema is that they are asking me to do. BTW, thank you for your responses. I am looking forward to this reversal.

Maybe you are supposed to do a warm water enema into your rectum in preparation for the test to ensure you have a clean rectum???? How you would do this is go buy a fleet enema, then pour the solution out, then add warm water to the bottle, not too hot, then administer the warm water into your rectum to clean out any mucous. I was at the Fleets website and they have a new product designed specially for cleaning only the rectum. It's called Fleet's Cleansing Enema.

I have never used it. But it sounds PERFECT for ileostomates. We can't do enemas and laxatives. However, we do have to do preps to keep our rectums clean for certain tests. Like the barium enema. I no longer have an ileostomy. But when I went to a new surgeon he wanted my J Pouch/rectum to be clean. From what I read, ths product is NOT a laxative like the normal Fleets saline enema. Although, it's posible it could produce a bowel movement. But not likely.

I looked for it at Walmart but they didn't have it. So maybe CVS or Walgreens will.
