The vacation from ****

So, I go on vacation (within the US) for a week taking enough supplies to fully change out ostomy appliance 3 times.  Next time, I taking enough to change every single day if need be.   The seal failed all three times and because the third time was Memorial Day and all medical supply offices were closed I ended up at the local ER just to get a faceplate and pouch. 

Some time ago I posted on Hollister products and whether or not their quality control was suffering.  To my knowledge I received no replies to that post but can hardly believe that I'm the only one having this kind of "luck" with their products??

I wasn't having problems during your first hollister post, but today I called them today and made a complaint. I had to change my appliance 3 times on Fri. p.m. My poor skin.....ugh.

the wafers were leaking. I mean their were holes in the brand new ones. so weird.
they are replacing them.

Have you called them?

What a bummer that you got defective products! Thanks for the reminder to pack more supplies than we think we're going to need when traveling. Hope Hollister sends you some free supplies to cover the defective ones.

esoR: You bring up an interesting point I hadn't thought of - I order in bulk (6 months at least) and store my supplies in the closet of an extra bedroom. I'm wondering if because the vents were closed in that room if it got too hot at some point before I remembered to go in and open them....that doesn't account for the covers tearing on the pouches, the misaligned templates on the faceplates OR the tabs that are supposed to indicate the bottom being on the top, right or left side of the faceplate :)

Anyway, I'm going to give convatec a test drive when I get close to needing to reorder.

After having several leaks and embarrassing moments with Hollister not to mention the raw irritated skin. I spoke with a nurse who quickly suggested a convex wafer and an ostomy belt. She also suggested that when applying the wafer to first apply the stoma powder and wipe with a sting free barrier wipe, repeat creating a thin crust, then I use the eakin seal, I use the 2 piece convatec: the wafer is a convex-it, 10in bag and finally the belt. No leaks and no skin problems so far! Confidence was regained to enjoy life again!

Trigirl~not everyone gets a week's wear time...that's good if you are getting 3 days since you are so active! (Personally, I change every 3-4 days and usually 3 during the hot months.)

I sent Hollister an email about their shoddy quality control. Still waiting to hear back.
