Five years ago I had a total colectomy, jpouch and reversal. It had to be done in 3 steps because I was so sick at the time. At first it was better than being sick all the time, but over the years it got worse and worse. Finally after trying different treatments the surgeon suggested that the jpouch had deteriorated and he went in to try and repair it, that didn’t work but I did have enough small intestine to create a new jpouch now I’m waiting for the reversal. My problem is I’m scared once the reversal is done I will go back to food restrictions, cramps and constantly in search of bathroom. The last few weeks have been great I eat whatever and whenever I want. I’ve gained weight and finally feel healthy again. Has anyone experienced this and if so what was the outcome? I’m hoping that the same symptoms from the first round of surgeries won’t happen again, because if that’s what I’ve got to look forward to I would just rather keep the ileostomy!
