Coloplast vs Hollister

My ostomy nurse ordered the Hollister one piece fold and seal ostomy bags with the filter. I already received my shipment but then I tried the Coloplast bags they sent as samples and I like them better. They are much easier to empty. Would it be a problem if I switched to Coloplast next month? Or do the insurance companies frown on that?

Yeah Christine you can switch every time if you want. I'm a big fan of Coloplast 2-pieces and I hate the opening of the Hollister bags. It was a nightmare every time I had to empty those. Glad you are doing so well.

What I do with the hollister bags is trim the bottom edge where you empty it. I dunno why they put that stupid thin plastic edge down there.

I never tried the Convatec. But I do like the Coloplast. All this stuff can drive ya nuts.

taking that cruise on Sept 11th to Nova Scotia. We cancelled it when I decided to have the surgery because I didn't know what to expect or how long it would take me to feel well.

I have only used Convatec clear one piece with the tail clip. How do you clean the tail after empying with the closures rhat are velcro and roll up? I have had samples and don't see how to squeeze the pre-poop out of the bag.

Clear pouch.....I prefer to see what is in it.
But, how do you clean the tail end with velcro before you roll it up?

I pretty much stick it in and do one circle and it's clean...sometimes I might have to get a smaller piece for something stubborn but that's rare.

Have you tried a sample? Each brand's end is different and I prefer Hollister but I use Coloplast because the wafer works better for me.

Nascar, how long does the whole procedure take you?

I changed my bag yesterday and I used one of my samples...it was a convatec and I love it. It has a moldable wafer that you shape to your stoma and the wafer stuck to my skin very well. The part that I molded around my wafer turtle necked up around the stoma and it seems that it will do a good job keeping the poop away from my skin. The only thing I hated was it did not have a floating flange and I found it painful to push it onto my abdomen. OUCH When I called Convatec, they told me they have an insert that I can use that will make it a floating flange, so samples are on their way.

I like Hollister too, but the moldable wafer is awesome....Christine, you need to request samples from Convatec...tell them you want samples of the moldable wafer and the insert to make it a floating flange.

I tried Coloplast, but for some odd reason, the wafer will not stick to my skin....I even heated it up with a hair dryer and it still wouldn't stick.

Yeah, my skin was totally dry and I have not had issues with Hollister or Convatec wafers sticking to my skin. It seemed weird to me that the coloplast did not have the paper tape part around the outside of the barrier....

My skin is sensitive to both the paper tapes of Hollister and Convatec. And it doesn't like the edge of Coloplast's "plastic'-like flange cutting into it. I finally settled down with the tapeless flange of Convatec. It feels great!
It took me 4 months to finally find the right flange but it's worth it.
Ironically, I don't have any problem with the skin around my stoma.
