Hey everyone.. well I had a full ileostomy 2 fridays ago...
I'm healing well and getting my strength back, but today I haven noticed a bit of a bulge, barely noticeable but when I run my hand down my stomach I can feel the raise... It's soft and not at all tender... Could this be an abscess? I'm contacting my surgeon tomorrow to be sure (want to deal with this quickly if it is something to worry about
)
Thanks guys I'm worrying myself to death over this as I've been through so darn much at a young 20 years old...

Don't hernias usually hurt, and wouldn't I know when it happened? I've done NOTHING strenuous and been using my arms to get me up and down off the couch... My father also has an ostomy bag he got his surgery done 10 years ago... and I brought this to my parents attention and my dad actually has as small part on his stomach left of his stoma site and bag (same as me although mines further left) that's kind of hard and he said it's always been there never had a problem...
I'm just worrying myself to death I think, Hoping it's nothing! just worries me kind of because at my incision sight where the staples were there was some puss coming out of them before they were removed but the doc's said it's pretty routine and normal for that to happen when it's about
time for them to come out....

It's just weird because it's not painful to the touch AT ALL... can't tell a difference pushing on it or pushing on any other part of torso... also it's soft not hard at all or even firm.. and no temperature... so that's all giving me some relief in thinking it's nothing to really worry about

Okay, it's probably not an abscess. Abscesses are usually accompanied by a fever. They are also painful. If you get a fever and you feel pain then go to the ER.

hahah suebear... Will it hurt as soon as it starts? also will the fever come on as soon as it starts? if not how long does it usually take for it to start hurting and so on

Usually if you can feel an abscess you would already have pain and a fever.

If you're really worried, grab your hospital discharge papers and call the doctor on duty right now.

hey everyone yeah it's still not hurting so I'm guessing it won't... also I've been monitoring my temperature and it's perfect.... so chances are no abscess :)

my guess it is just a weak spot where the muscle was cut. I have a similar spot and have had no problems with it, just get healed up and start your excersize! That will make you feel better.

Thanks fish yeah I'm not worried anymore, still contacting my woundostomy nurse to talk about
my stoma seperating from my skin at one point on the top about
half an inch long :/ I've read up on it and seen a lot of people have had it and it's not a real big deal but I'd like to contact him and the surgeon to make sure... especially since when putting on the bag it kind of hurts on that part especially changing bags when it pulls on it when taking off the bag

I have pus coming out of where two stitches popped. The surgeon
opened it up so all the pus could come out and put some kind of salve on it. He then put a bandaid over it and told me to keep an eye on it but it should heal ok. Not so much pus coming out now as before. I do have a hemorroid which is giving me grief. Why my surgeon never took my anus out is beyond me. He said he wouldn't do a j-pouch on me because of my age, 63. I had my colon and rectum removed as my main problem was ulcerative proctitis for many years and I had become prednisone dependent.

I had an abcess that didn't show up for nearly 2 months. The abcess wasn't in the ileo but to the left side. I had no temp or pain until it got so large and I insisted they at least take a look see. It was -- 28cm x 19cm and very impressive. They put in 4 pinrose drains and I had them for 6-8 weeks and believe it or not it still wasn't healed. In May I noticed a sore above the abcess and here it went again only not as big and it did heal within a month. If I were you I wouldn't let it go I'd have it checked out.
