Not Normal Stoma

I had a Colostomy done on June 11, due to Perferated Diverticulitis. I have a HOLE, nothing sticking out. My Nurse wrote this down since I do not know the technical terms: Colostomy, Stoma Sloughed Off and Stenosis. I have to stick my finger in the hole, inside the "other" hole to dilate. My Doctor did this last week and I thought I was gonna faint! He tore the outer skin, so now, when I "have to go", it burns! My hole entrance  has shrunken to about an inch and half now. My Doctor says he wants to wait til November for my Reversal, but my Nurse keeps telling me, that she doesnt think that I will last that long, since the outer hole is closing up. My Nurse only has 2 more visits with me, so this is realllllllllly scaring me!!! Does anyone else have an Abnormal Stoma?

is the stoma flush with the skin?
If not, when you press on the skin around the stoma hole, is the stoma visible?
Are you sing bags with convexity?
My stoma retracted less than a week after surgery and I have to use bags with convexity. When I first remove my bag the stoma sticks out maybe 1/4" but then after a few seconds of having the convex pouch off it is about flush with my skin, perhaps slightly under the surface.

Tara, no, its not flush, it was at first but a creepy looking hole. Today tho, after cleaning it and dialating it twice, I was looking at it because of the soreness and redness all around it, and seen a little red thing inside of it. Size of an eraser. I wasnt going to touch it!! My Nurse comes tomorrow, she can touch it!

I use Coloplast bags, the one with the vent on top and the the velcro opening at the bottom..one piece. I have an assortmant of samples here and can use them all. I have even used the two piece when I went to the doctor, just so I didnt have to put a new bag on. I think thats where I made my mistake. When he dialated it, he rammed is fingers in there, and I from the wafer being on, I think my skin didnt give, which resulted in the pain and pullling on the skin.

Hi Anthony, My Nurse just left. I asked her the question that you asked. She said, thats what were trying to prevent. She measured it and its now 3/4 inch across and 3/8???? inch up and down. She said as long as I can get my finger in the hole to the stoma hole to dialate, it should be fine. It really hasnt gotten any smaller the last few weeks, so thats a good sign!!! When I changed my bag last night, I noticed a little red thing in there, first time ive seen that. My Nurse today, cracked a grin when she seen it., She calls me "Special" LOL because what I have is not normal. She is so funny. She is still amazed that I dont have any pouching problems. I do tho, get blisters in the inner part of the hole sometimes, and it looks raw.
If your still not sure what I have, heres an example. Stiick your finger in your Belly Button, and inside that, there would be another hole, which would be the stoma hole!

So far, so good, just gotta make sure the outer hole stays open. I only have one more visit from my Nurse, and this is what is freaking me out! Shes going to try and get an extension from the Insurance company, considering im not "normal". Im Special!!!
Youd have to be sedated sticking your finger in the hole? LOL I almost fainted in my chair when the Nurse first dialted me, thought it was going to hurt, but it didnt! I still freak out a bit when I have to do it.

Ahhhh , I see you now understand what I have!  Yaaaaaay!!!!! I would think, that the surgeons would have something for this, to keep the outer hole open, like a plastic ring thats inserted,  to keep it from closing over " inny" stoma. I guess not tho, or else he would have given me one.

Belly Button lint..LOL.. I have never had that! Probably get it now, since my belly button has moved like 2 inches over since the surgery!  why oh why, it was in a good spot in the beginning!
