showering w/o the appliance on

You are so sweet to give your stoma a personal shower everyday! I usually shower with the pouch on, except on wafer changing days. That's when I remove everything and clean the skin around the stoma with unscented soap. I like to take longer showers on those days, because it feels good to be without the wafer for a little bit.

I used to take the pouch off and give Paloma (my stoma) a shower every day, but quickly realized that she liked being covered in poo, so I just let her have her way! On wafer changing days, if she decides to get active in the shower, it's okay, it just goes down the drain anyway. Since your output is thick, removing the pouch and cleaning around your stoma is a good idea, since it will probably give you a longer wafer wear time.

lol thanks guys! well my two ostomates girl friends shower w/o anything on, but i don't think i'm comfortable doing that yet, but will give it a try some time. lets say it's no biggie if it's active during the shower, but what if it's really active when i'm out of the shower drying my self with the towel :o ???? that sounds like a nasty situation, doesn't it?

Well, I love Italian food, but couldn't eat it when I was sick, because I would be in so much pain afterward. Once I got my stoma, I could finally eat it again, so I decided to give her an Italian name that rhymes with stoma, so she became Paloma!

Hodaya, I showered with my bag off one time and it was a disaster. I think the warm water stimulated it or something because as soon as I stepped out of the shower, the thing started going off and off and off....My bathroom floor and my legs kept getting showered with poop. My husband was fascinated and all I wanted to do was cry. LOL It took us a good hour before we could even attempt to put the bag on. I have yet to try that again, but I am getting braver by the day and less scared of my Stomee. Since it is settling down and my output, though still liquidy, is getting less, I may try again.

By the way, it did feel good to have the water go over the skin with the bag off.

I've heard and actually tried to end my shower with cold water running over the stoma I was told that that shocks her to not do her business.........I do think it worked but as I say my "my privey" chooses the time when change by leaking...

i thought of doing it, but couldn't. guess i'll stay with what makes me comfortable - staying with it on during a shower.
