Well i had surgery a week ago and up until today the smell wasn't too bad emptying it...but OMG....I don't know what to do?? I have sprayed, lit candles...any ideas?? I can't imagine going into a public restroom and emptying...so embarrassed!!!

it should get better with time and, I know for me, it depends on what you eat. There were times I thought I shat out a rose garden and then days where I just dropped an entire landfill into the toilet. A lot of folks on here will talk about tic tacs, and something called m-9 ... not sure if it is called that, but I am sure someone will chime in.

Buy some M9 drops. They are awesome and eliminate all the smell in my bag...you need to add more drops to your bag every time you empty.

Tacos and chili makes my output smell funny. Fish is awful.

Every morning I empty my bag is smell horrible.

Some tricks are to use tictacs or mouthwash. I've tried 3% peroxide and it works but sometimes it would cause it to poof up.

Hollister M9 deodorizer drops are the best! Put a few drops in the pouch, and there's no odor. :-) Just add them to your order the next time you purchase ostomy supplies. In the meantime, mouthwash or 3% hydrogen peroxide works, too, but not nearly as well.

You lit candles!? You're gonna blow up your bathroom!!! (TEE-HEE). So what if it smells. If you are home turn on the fan or open a window. If you are in a large restroom, like on the interstate, there is enough air that nobody will notice. If it's a small restroom, one at a time, you'll be gone before the next person comes in. We have enough to worry about without worrying about the smell. Let everyone else enjoy it too.

When I worked in a Ford Motor building everyone had a cubicle. One guy liked to go into someone's cube and fart. He is now a cop in a police car. I relish the day I might be able to go for a ride with him. PAYBACKS ARE HE**.

Even a person that poops from their butt smells pretty foul too, so don't stress about using a public restroom, you can only try the deodorants that have been suggested by the others. Also I often carry a small spray perfume or body spray with me and give the toilet a quick spray on leaving.

It does get better with time. M-9 Drops are great and you could also do the chewable deodorizer...they both can be purchased through your supplier.

When in public, you can carry a small can of Lysol (checkout counter @ Walmart/Target) or Binanca (breath spray) and the trick is to spray the inside of the toilet BEFORE you empty...and flush...you'll never smell up the bathroom smilewinkgrin

I too use M9 drops I believe Hollister makes it. The bottle says you only need 12 drops and it really does help. I agree it does get better with time but sometimes the stinky is worse than others. I guess it depends on what you eat. Last eve. we went out for mexican and I ate a burrito with a few beans. "Privey" had horrible gas after dinner but I think that was too soon after for the gas to hit. The output wasn't bad though. You just never know what'll trip it..... I have to agree that everyone's poop stinks we are just more aware because we actually have to empty ours and not squat and drop like some others do.

i really like to use the little breath sprays, but you do have to spray before emptying, it doesnt work otherwise, plus you dont want to put it back in your pocket if you touch it with dirty hands, ick! but also, the alochol in the spray can clean the seat if its dirty :D

     I carry a small bottle of perfume ....hubby said it makes it smell like somebody **** under a rose bush but I tend to disagree idea .

     My horrible experience (bag breaking while at show in Borgata casino) wasn't as bad as it could have been because I ate a bunch of wintergreen mints before the show and my output actually smelled like the mints tongue .

i have the best solution that i just discovered. i was always paranoid too! so get some chlorophyll (either liquid or capsules) the more potent the less you have to take. it's good for you anyway too! i just pop two capsules before i go somewhere and it totally helps. helped my hubby with garlic breath the other night too, he ate so much it was coming out of this pores. supposed to be good for b.o. too but don't have that prob so not sure... GO CHLOROPHYLL!
before this, i would just put a little hydrogen peroxide in my bag and it works pretty good too.

haha! that's cloroform! it's totally different:) chlorophyll is what helps give plants their green color.

I use a few drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide which is available in the First Aid Section of your supermarket (NEVER use anything stronger than the 3% solution) - much cheaper than the 'made for ostomies' deodorisers. It's safe enough to be used as a mouthwash and won't harm your stoma. It doesn't mask odour or make it smell like anything else - it eliminates it completely! I've been using it for years.
