I had a revision done on "Duke" in Dec and he now sheds his clothes almost everyday. If I keep it on 24 hours that is a long time. Prior to the revision I could mostly keep it on for 3-5 days. I use the hollister high output, 2 piece products. I read a couple of post that said Hollister's do not stick well. What does? My stoma is only out about 1/2 inch on the outside and almost level with the skin on the inside side. The opening is also not centered. It opens at about 4 or 5 o'clock right on the edge of the flush side. There have been days when the wafers have come loose 4 times in one day. I have used eakin seals, coloplast paste strips, 1/3 flat circle things, the glue stuff -although I have been told the Smith and Nephew is no longer available, but was the best. I think I have tried everything!! Including peptobismal to try to heal the burns that I get after it leaks!!
Someone on this thread asked about healing the area under the wafer and I did finally get some GREAT advise on how to heal the burns. Flonase Nasal Spray. The generic is fluticasone. It is a corticosteriod and works in just a day or two --and I get 2nd and sometimes 3rd degree burns under my wafer. It allows the wafer to stick over it when it is dry. I do not know how it really works, but I think the skin must absorb the medicine and leaves a dry surface for the wafer to stick too. The pharmacist told me that they make stronger ointments, but wafers will not stick to that type of things. I just read on here about Friars Balsam but I do not know what it is. My Medicare Rx plan pays for the Flonase. Oh yes, it does not burn at all.
I have also called several of the companies directly on their 1-800 numbers and they are all always very helpful and send samples of most items.
Any suggestions on the stickiest wafers will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Emma Jane
