Allergic to Sure Seals?

So, I've got these red bumps on the outside of my wafer like a ring and for the life of me I thought it was the wafer I was using. I did a patch test with a Hollister and Coloplast wafer, both were clean. I was itching like crazy!! It never dawned on me that I could be allergic to the Sure Seal. Gosh I love thee Sure Seals!! :(
So today I change and don't put the Sure Seal on and so far no itching!! Could it be? Sad sad sad. Loved the security the sure seal gave me :(

I had the same problem - itched liked the dickens. Had to stop wearing them.

Minor itching I can deal with but a full blown breakout of red bumps and itching I can't deal with :(
I sure wish I could use the Sure Seals :(

I am allergic as well :( I can't even use adhesive wafers. Just be thankful sure seals are all you're allergic to.

<- allergic as well, red bumps and itching like crazy. I asked a few months ago if anyone had found an alternative but no one really had anything.

I am not alone!!! I felt all lonely over here for a while :p
We have to now invent an alternative! Maybe the adhesive is the culprit!

I am putting Hy-Tape around my wafer this time instead of the Sure Seal. The Sure Seal was making me itch. I have used Hy-Tape in the past without any problems, so maybe this will work.

I'm more allergic to hytape than anything else!

Allie, it's like a flesh colored thick tape that is waterproof.

I have heard nurses refer to it as "pink tape". You can find it at almost any medical supply house. I am using the one inch wide all the way around.

It's only been on for about 8 hours, but so far, so good. No itching yet.

It seems like that as I came off of prednisone, I developed more problems with itching and allergies. My skin is very dry now - so dry that sometime the skin cracks open on my hands. I could use the heel of my foot as sandpaper. Not sure that all of this is related, but it sure seems to be.

I had major skin irritation when I used Sure Seals so unfortunately I had to quit using them. My WOC nurse recommended using this stuff called Convatec Duoderm. I think it's meant as a wound dressing but what I do is buy the extra thin 4x4in squares and cut them into 4 strips and tape those around the edges of my wafer. It works wonders and keeps water from becoming a problem when showering/bathing, and of course, no irritation. Great alternative to sure seals in my opinion.

Thanks Ron, I'm going to call the store on Monday and see if we can get it here in Canada.
