My stoma hurts! :( What could it be?

Hi all,

In the last day or so, Zoe has been hurting a lot! :( I am still having normal-looking output, but she feels like little knives are poking her in waves.  I've had an obstruction and it feels a LITTLE like that, but not totally. Plus sometimes she doesn't hurt. It's right above my stoma. I was nervous it's a hernia, but it looks fairly normal, and I feel like that would hurt continuously.

I have been trying different appliances, and I've just tried a convex adapt ring for the first time. I'm wondering if it might possibly be too tight on my stoma? Could that cause pain?

I just want to be happy with Zoe! I'm so glad she's here but there are so many scary things that can happen now. If anyone has any ideas of what's up, I'd love to hear them.

OMG. that sounds like what happened to me earlier this year. I said it felt like little pin were stabbing my stoma. For me, it happened a day or two after I was doing some heavy work outs-and sit ups, which my surgeon warned me not to do. I spent 5 days in the hospital and went through tons of tests, and nobody could figure out what it was. They said there was some slight inflammation right around the stoma, and one internist said it may be crohn's dz, but my GI quickly said that is no what it was. So, I went home, and about a week later, it stopped. I think I hurt it exercising, even though it looked ok. I've been careful, and haven't had a problem since.

Ick, I had the same thing with Oscar after an obstruction. He just hurt and no matter what I did he wouldn't feel better. I went to the Dr. and he poked and prodded and gave the "all is clear, wait and see" rx. After about 3 weeks Oscar was fine. Scary though!!

Thanks for the reassurance. I wonder if I hurt her somehow? I don't remember anything...she's not as bad today but just more achey--like she was right after surgery (like she hurts if things bump against her, or having my pants tight hurts). Maybe she's just sore? I don't know. I'm nervous, but it's nice to hear from you guys.

I hurt "privey" every once in awhile by accidebt. I use a long q-tip and go around closely to the stoma for a tighter stick. Occasionally the q-tip slips and hurts "THE GIRL''. A time or two she oozed a little blood but as far as feeling sharp pain I haven't except when I initally hit it.

Ok, update...

I just had ANOTHER LEAK (god, this is annoying), so I went to change Zoe's outfit. I was hoping she'd look normal since she's been hurting. Turns out she has a little area (like a half inch at most) along the outside ring of my stoma, where it connects to the skin, where it looks like it's coming apart from the skin, like I need a stitch to close it or something. It's not bleeding profusely--just a little. I can't decide what it's from and I don't know what to do about it. I took a pic of her and i"m going to email it to my stoma nurse.

Has anyone ever had this?? I"m nervous.

sounds scary to me, like maybe a stitch that shouldn't come out, did came out..? can you call your surgeon?

Well, I had surgery 3 months ago--my stitches dissolved long ago and my stoma was fine. I don't think it's that. I sent a pic to my nurse and she said to come in on Monday.

glad you're seeing the nurse soon, i hope everything is ok, pls keep us posted on this.
