Retracted stoma?

I just had a revision on my ileostomy last Thursday, my surgeon went in to remove my rectal stump and noticed my intestines was twisted 360 degrees so he had to remove a piece and create a new stoma. Well needless to say I miss my old stoma right now because this new one is retracted and creating hell on my skin! The mouth is also very high too, it's almost touching the top of my skin and I'm hoping it drops down if/when it comes out.

Has anyone started out with a retracted stoma and popped out with healing time???

My stoma seems to have poped out somewhat since my surgery. It used to be just above the skin now it is protruding about 3/4 inch. I am much happier with it now than I used to be.

Thank you so much for the reply, it makes me feel much better! I do know stoma's change a lot the first 6-8 weeks but was never sure if popping out was one of those changes!!! :)

I had my ileostomy 3 years ago. A few months later my stoma was prolapsed (it was way out) and had to be corrected with surgery. A few months later it was retracted and I could not get a good seal. Many blowouts. Surgery again. Stoma was great until the stitches dissolved. Retracted again and still is. No more surgery. I have been trying Hollister's convex seal and it seems to be working. I have a thread going "Hollister convex seal" with my results.
