Air travel and the TSA:

I flew out of Montreal last July. I got a pat down and when the woman doing the search put a finger around my waistband and hit the top of my pouch her eyes got all big and she stepped away. I said "it's a colostomy" She didn't understand, I said louder "it's a medical appliance" She still didn't get it, so I pointed to my side and said VERY LOUDLY "poop comes out here" At that a supervisor ran over and started to apologize profusely. He asked if It would be alright if I went through the scanner. I stood in the scanner, it took 2 seconds and was done. He radioed to someone before I stepped in that I had an "appliance" And that was it.....or least I thought so. My husband went through the scanner and when he was done said very loudly across the security line "they just saw my junk" to which I replied "they just alot more then my junk."
Honestly if your open and realize most people just don't know about ostomies, accept that and in turn, don't get angry with them but try to educate. I feel us as ostomates have been given a gift, we need to share our experiences with other's to educate them and share our stories with them.
