Flange size

I am currently using a one-piece appliance since I am recently out of surgery. However, I would like to order some two-piece appliances soon. The pattern piece I created for my oval-shaped stoma is exactly 1 3/4 at its longest point (this measurement includes my stoma and about 1/16 to 1/8 inch around it). The nurse at the hospital gave me a sample of a Coloplast Sensura Click two-piece pouch and flange that has a maximum cutting mark of 1 3/4 inch. However, when I hold this up to my pattern, it looks too small to me. There is only about an 1/8 inch between the edge of my stoma pattern piece and the plastic ring of the flange. My catalog lists that this flange fits 1 3/4 inch stomas, but I am wondering if I should go up to the 2 1/4 inch size. The only problem with that is that the adhesive wafer on this size is so much larger... it looks like it will take up 1/2 of my belly! Thoughts as to which size is better?

Thanks Dale. Yes, I have been creating a new pattern each time I change my pouch as my stoma is shrinking a bit. Nothing major... has shrunk maybe about an 1/8 inch in about 6 weeks. My question revolves more about what size flange to choose for the two-piece systems for my 1 3/4 inch stoma. For instance, many of the Coloplast cut-to-fit ones come in sizes to fit stomas 3/8" to 1 1/2", 3/8" to 1 3/4" and 3/8" to 2 1/4". I am trying to decide between the 3/8" to 1 3/4" and the 3/8" to 2 1/4". The sample I have that goes up to 1 3/4" just looks so small when I hold it up to my stoma pattern.

I realize down the line I may have to change sizes as my stoma continues to shrink.

I'd stay with the smaller one. At least give it a try and see how it goes. If you have problems with it you can get a sample of the larger one and try it out but I don't think you'll have a problem with the smaller one.
