Hi all, new to this and 1st time ive ever posted in a forum! so hi!

im 22 and i've had my illeostomy now for a year, im studying musical theatre at one of the most prestigious schools in London, and im unsure what road to take!...

i have the option for the reversal... however its hard to know what i will be able to do after wards regarding performing?.... how long can you last before needing the toilet? would I be able to complete an hour and a half show? and physically dance??

its something i would love to know a definite answer to, however i know there isn't one! but any advice i would very much appreciate! Also what the average healing time is ( how much time ill need to take out from auditioning)

Mitch....welcome. There are so many great people on this site that will be happy to relay their stories.

I can tell you that my son has had his reversal for about 10 months now and he is doing SO well. He can definitely go a few hours between BMs. If he was in your shoes he would just make sure that he went to the bathroom just before a performance and he would be fine for hours. If he did get the urge to go he could still easily hold it until a time that was favorable. He is physically, extremely active....skis, skateboards etc and has no issues.

The only issue I can see is that it can take a few months after surgery to feel confident and to have BMs really slow down. You have to be prepared for this....however some people it takes less time and some people more.

You should really sit down with your surgeon, have all you questions written down and get everything answered.

My personal opinion is that you should wait. Since you are in college now, I would wait until you are in a better life position, that you could take time off to heal. Most people will do fine after the reversal, but what if you don't. Will you lose your spot at school? Will you miss performances? Everyone heals at a different rate, and i just couldn't see trusting that you would have guaranteed complete control of your bowels again in any certain amt of time.
Especially if you are like me before you perform, and your adrenaline starts to rush, and you get a nervous feeling 'down there' (aka nervous poos). It used to affect me with u/c. Now, obviously, it has no affect on my bowels, but I still get that feeling. I think when I'm reversed, that it will come back.

Welcome Mitch! Did you have a resection that resulted in an ileostomy or surgery for a j-pouch? I think the answers would be different depending on the type of surgery you had and the reason for it. If you don't mind letting us know we can answer a little better for you!!

p.s. if your screen name is your real name you may want to consider changing it to protect yourself...there are a lot of shady people in the world:(
