Hi, mine is also on the right side just a little below the belly button. When i was talking to my stoma nurse i ask to have it on the left side but she said that is going to have to be on the right. Then, she marked where the stoma would be but i did not like that area because of my jeans and clothes, so she moved it just a little but she knew what she was talking about and guided me in the right direction.

It has only been 3 weeks of my surgery being done today, and i could not be happier. My jeans work perfect and shirts you can buy new ones. Do not worry your stoma nurse will know where to place it:)

I've had one on my right side almost inline with my belly button(as a temporary end ileo) which worked well for clothing. Long story short, I have a jpouch, and it's only been 5 weeks, but with the pain, and how bad this is feeling I want to revert back to a permanent end ileo. I am going to get it put on the left side, as I'm a guitarist, and I couldn't play a guitar with the bag on my right during my temporary ileo. So this time, since it will be permanent(lifelong) i'm going to get them to put it on the left side, unless there is some really strong reason against it medically of course. Actually I seem to recall reading somewhere they don't usually put a stoma back into an old stoma site if possible anyway(could be making that up though ;))

     Since I have situs inversus (all my organs are on opposite side than normal), I have my stoma on the left side.  First time the surgeon (in practice for over thirty years) performed surgery on a patient with situs inversus.  He said all that was different is that he had to stand on the opposite side.  :-)
