Stoma side of stomach swollen

I had my colostomy done almost 2 yrs ago and the left side of my stomach is still swollen. It sticks out about 1-2 inches from the right. I spoke to my doc about it a while ago and she just put it down as being swollen from the surgery. I was just wondering if this is normal?

surgery was TWO years ago and the surgeon is putting swelling down to the surgery?

Oh, lordy.

Ask her if she thinks it's a peristomal hernia. Let her know that YOU know that it's not from surgery 2 years ago. I would think that any surgical swelling would have long since disappeared (?) Just my opinion.

Do you have pain?

Many of us have odd shaped stomachs after surgery...mine is a little 'rounder' on the left side, too. I think someone was looking into plastic surgery to correct theirs (summerstorm?).

mine does that too! i went back to my surgeon, he looked and said, what are you talking about? and i showed him again and he said he couldn't see it and didn't think anyone would notice, but i did, but he told me that lipo would be fine if i thought it needed it.
But i have noticed this, and i think it might have something to do with it, when i lay flat, my right hip sticks up higher than my left hip! it's very odd, i think i'm out of whack!
he did tell me that it has nothing to do with the muscles because they don't go that way, he drew a picture but i can't explain it.

i don't think it's normal. do you have pain? does it hurt when you touch it?

Mine is swollen after 4 years, and it's a peristomal hernia. I want to have surgery to get rid of it but my surgeon says it could come back...

it doesn't hurt. I am sure most people wont notice it but I do, it really bothers me. My doc said it would go away if I lost a few pounds, I'm a little cubby. But when I suck in my stomach it stays just as big and becomes more noticeable. I don't think its a hernia and it doesn't hurt, it just isn't pretty.

i didnt notice mine until i lost some weight. mine stays the same when i suck in too, and i understand what you mean, it bothers me too, no matter what i do, or how much weight i lose or crunches i do or anything, it never goes away!

rolleyes  If you are talking about what i think you are my tummy is at different levels too!  My ex-stoma side is more bulgy than the non-stoma side.  dont know why - alwas been like it since surgery,  but i notice it more now i have no stoma.  it is better when i havent eaten and not bloated.  i wonder if it is where fat has been moved around and relocated  shocked

My hernia doesn't hurt at all. But I hate it! When you first wake up before you get out of bed see if it's still bulging. Hernias usually get bigger as the day goes on ....
