Howdy,
New on the forum and new to the ostomy lifestyle (2 months post subtotal colectomy with ileostomy).
Whilst in hospital for my surgery I was on 40mg of Pantoprazole (Protonix in the US / a proton pump inhibitor). My surgeon continued this medication when I was discharged and I am wondering if anyone knows what the medication could be used for (I do not have GERD or stomach ulcers). Researching on google looks like it could be related to reducing stomal output - although this seems to be more relevant in the case of short bowel syndrome or those with very high outputs.
Anyone have experience with this or any ideas?
