Kaylin,
It doesn't really matter how much medicine he gives you if you have CI the colon just doesn't work and most meds make you feel worse. I was on 24mg of Amitiza 2xs a day as well as the miralax 4xs a day & latulose 4xs a day and nothing still came out for weeks at a time. I would go to the surgeon but call and ask to be placed on a cancellation list bc by the time you see him/her then go through the testing he/she wants your looking at another 2 mos or so. My surgeon just wanted the sitz marker and rectal anomametry (I have no idea how to spell it lol) anyway...my gi did the barium burger & the very thorough sitz marker plus this was my 6th gi dr so I'd already had numerous tests on all parts of my gi tract.
My surgery was actually at 6pm so my NG tube was in at 5:30 am when my dr came in & he wanted the hospital interns to pull it that morning but they didn't so when he showed up the following morning at 5:30 he wasn't happy & pulled it himself; I was VERY happy then:) So it was in like a day & a half. (I agree w/ you though any amount of time w/ aNG tube is TOO much) Many on here have it in for several days, but my surgeon is VERY proactive to get your intestines woke up after surgery; after the tube wa:)s pulled he had them watch me throughout the day to make sure I was ok then gave me the choice of MOM or a suppository to get things moving. I chose the MOM and within a short time the bms started & I was on the road to recovery.
I would say CI is life consuming and the only way to be finally free of its clutches is to have the surgery and to be able to live as you were meant to!!!!! :)
