my story...have what they say was antibiotic indused uc. had no problems until September 2010 and had to have emergency surg for a toxic megacolon. They took almost all but one small strip out. Wore bag for 3 months and was reversed in January 2011. Having blood now still. got me on 1000mg canasa, one at night. was seeming to work at first but not so much now. Really don't want to try lots of meds for this when I will eventually have surg again and get a jpouch. Been a toll on me and the family but we've coped with it great i think. Hoping a jpouch will do well with me. Not had to deal with all this long, can only imagine suffering a long time with this.

Would just like comments, advice, somethin from ones who have been through this also.

I had my jpouch surgery 10 years ago and am doing fine. Be patient as your new plumbing learns how to function like a colon. There are not too many jpouchers here but you can meet more at www.j-pouch.org Be mindful though, many people that go to that site are having problems, however, the vast majority of us are doing fine.

Hello, hpr. I got to the point where I was steroid dependent and was going to have to go up to the "big" drugs to try to get some relief. I really wasn't interested in going through all of the expense, side effects, etc. and ending up in surgery eventually anyway. I decided to consult with a surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic and I had my first surgery on 3/22. My j-pouch will be a 3 step process, so at this point I've only had the colectomy and ileostomy part....probably not too different from what you've already been through.

What kind of advice are you looking for specifically?

it's been helpful just reading some posts on here. good to know you're not alone sometimes ya know. whole thing scared me to death at first. trying to learn all I can. Thanks for j-pouch.org. site address Suebear. Comforting to read that you've had pouch 10 years and doing well with it.

Run4pancakes-wish you well with the surgs. they said mine would probly be a two step when I do get it done. Gotta wait for my body to heal more and stuff from last two surgs. Guess I didn't have specific questions right now exactly.
