Passing stool with permanent 6 year old sigmoid colostomy

My husband just passed quite a lot of semi-formed grayish stool. He's had a permanent sigmoid colostomy for 6 years and this is the first time this has ever happened. He has never had a blockage but he was a bit "stopped up" for about a day and a half but that was resolved yesterday and he filled the pouch several times. He's quite worried and of course it's a weekend so no doctor is available. I read other posts about this happening with a j-pouch but that's not what he has. Should he be concerned or can it wait until monday when the doctor is back? Thanks.

Is there an answering service that can pass your call along to whomever is covering or to a nurse so you can at least set your mind at ease a bit? I wouldn't want to be running to an emergency room but wouldn't want to be waiting until MOnday either.

Actually he's in the middle of changing primary care doctors and the new doc doesn't know him. I'll just keep watching and if it happens again I'll take him to the ER.

It would seem to me if he is still having BM's and no pain, blood, or fever, you would be safe to wait until next week. Sounds like he may have had a partial blockage that cleared itself. Any of the above symptoms appear then go to the ER.
