brevard county florida - ostomy support group?

just looking to see if anyone on here is situated in Brevard county Florida and/or if anyone knows of a support group in the same county for ostomates...

Enigma,

I live in Brevard county, but don't have an ostomy....had my colon removed because of colon inertia, but my small intestine is attached to my rectum. Where do you live? I'm in Merritt Island.

While I was in Cocao Beach in 2009 I had a problem with my stoma. I went to a stoma nurse at Holmes Medical. It was south of CB. Can't tell you any more. Is that still Brevard county? Perhaps they can steer you to a support group.

I think there is one up by Daytona Beach...is that near you? The president of that just came to our meeting the other month. I will ask Pat for his info if you want!

Thanks.....I know the guy up at Ormand Beach...it's just a little too far to drive every month, but nice to go up there once or twice a year....

Polish Dan:  Thanks....Holmes Medical is in Melbourne...and, I've talked to the WOCN nurse in the same city (different hospital)...will probably go in and visit them just as a check-up on things.....

I did finally get a hold of a name/phone number for a support group in Brevard....

I live in Titusville....have an illeostomy....just had surgery two weeks and two days ago.....getting a little stronger now...only concern is the skin around the stoma...most pains are gone.....have walked twice today with much more energy...am going to go out on my third "outing" tonight with a good walk around the block

I was in the hospital for 6 days after surgery....the "extra" day was due to other symptoms I've been having that they wanted to be sure about.....they wanted me to go home after 5 days, but I had a long talk with the visiting Dr. and he said okay,you can stay one more day......it was worth it....you can have the same talk with your Dr...is you really don't feel good enough to go home, tell them and ask them to let you stay another day....

I am in Brevard - but went to Orlando Regional for my total colectomy in Feb 2011. (colonic inertia) no Ostomy - but still can't eat solid food (cooked fruits/veggies or meats) and still on low residue. Basically if it dissolves in water - I can eat it. Food cause extreme pain lower right side. Been hospitalized 3 times since surgery for pain issues - the last one was for anastomosis infection with severe pain. Strongly considering asking my surgeon if doing an ostomy would fix my pain problem. Solid food, gas, and even liquid hurts passing threw this one lower spot which a doctor at wuesthoff said was where my "connection" is. So I believe it is a connection problem. Did you have your colectomy local?? Considering seeing another surgeon if mine is not going to take this seriously. Had this issue since surgery, not getting better and starting to get hopeless. Keep being told that it will get better. Thinking I would rather deal with having a bag then living in pain. Can you eat pretty much anything or would I still be in the same situation. Liquid diet with baby food/boost/bread and pasta?? Any advice would be great.
